Meeting his parents for the first time and staying at their house for the weekend. Together 9 months. What should I bring as a host/hostess gift? I will have to take it on a plane. (no alcohol)

Thanks all. It went really well. They loved the box of fancy chocolate. It made for a post dinner activity of studying the chocolate card/key and dividing each chocolate into four pieces for everyone to try. My bf said it was a home run

You don’t need to bring anything. Just a great nonjudgmental attitude. If you go out to eat, offer to buy dinner, they probably won’t let you, but it’s a nice thought.

Flowers never hurt. I think the bigger thing was the impression you make on them with your behavior. Be a good conversationalist, friendly, engage in what they’re doing.

That's a big step (meeting for the first time + sleepover). Have you discussed sleeping arrangements yet? When my wife first met ny parents, it was "Hi" and "Goodbye" as we had an appointment.

I’d bring flowers OR something local to you like souvenir coffee mugs and local coffee.

Get alcohol at duty-free?

They aren't drinkers, so no alcohol.

I got flowers, and i baked cookies the day before and had 5 of them left, so i took them in a jar. When i stayed over, i got shampoo and soap and a head scarf.

I like the fancy chocolate idea. I think that's what I'll go with. If there's an option to treat them to something I'll do that. Thanks all!

Need advice. Have some credit card debt that I’ve been working to pay off. Have made progress but want to lower it quickly. We have dual income, with a house (~$300k in equity), 1 kid and 1 on the way. I’ve looked into debt consolidation via HELOC but also have ~$80k in vested equity in my company that I haven’t touched. Get equity refreshes every year. Would it be smarter to cash out $15k-$20k of that to pay debt vs. a HELOC at ~5% given that will still require mthly payments

I am generally uncomfortable when I’m around my mother-in-law’s husband.

While he is overall a decent guy, his anger issues, yelling at his wife for the slightest issue, and insulting nature makes me uncomfortable and triggers my own anger due to his blatant disrespect for just about everyone around him.

My mother-in-law says he’s worked on things, but it’s been 10 years of this and I’m not sure I want such behavior around my wife and our kids since we’re trying to conceive soon (cont).

I’m mid 30s F. Recently started seeing this guy, where he is “good enough”. Good conversations, decent time together, he has a good heart, but nothing about him shines. - not fit (I work out everyday and play sports), meh social skills (he doesn’t have best friends, just few he hangs out with), bit less energy than me.
There is a feeling in me that says “he’s going to be a comfortable life partner” and “he is just good enough, but if I break up I won’t find someone for a long time”

So I have been seeing a guy for 4 months. We have a pay disparity.. he earns less than I do (by quite a bit). He has mentioned a few times that he’s worried I’ll get bored of him when I know he can’t afford the same things I can. I think we are beginning to move past this, but now he’s starting to mention things like ‘I am really broke this month’, and last weekend he told me his mum has lost her job and he’ll have to probably pay her rent. I have a lot of sympathy for his situation … tbc

Started talking to this guy through group a group telegram and one day he offered to pay for my lunch as I had helped him out with something. Since then he has been offering to pay for my dinners, salon visits, shopping etc and I have accepted 3-4 times. I am in a steady relationship and my boyfriend doesn’t know about this. The other guy just says he likes paying for my stuff and there’s no agenda. Is this a little weird?
