Don’t think you need to cancel it. Def don’t can el and start a new one, that’ll just drag down your average age of accounts
Why not just downgrade the card from plat to a free Amex. You’ll keep the credit history

Canceling it will bring your total average age of accounts down and drop your score 20-30 points

If I canceled that now, would my score go back up in a year again? And then at that time I could apply for Amex again for their welcome gift?
Amex also does once per lifetime sign up bonuses - you can’t get it again by cancelling and reapplying
Can you justify the annual fee of the platinum card?
