Op, it depends on your goal and the strategic growth direction of the firm. More responsibilities offer more opportunities to grow, expand your skill set, and gain varied leadership/management/line responsibilities. Many have moved from bulge bracket firms to drive, grow, expand and lead new business initiatives and divisions. Such opportunities are difficult to come by at larger firms with too many top cover layers.
Guess it depends on you...are you ready to coast or do you still have ambition? I think in this industry brand matters more than day-to-day responsibilities.
What role? IB? Mid office?
Go for the higher position. Even if the bank is small you'll have more to do and more to say you can do. You can always switch firms again.
