You can pick only 2 out of 3:
1) less expensive
2) family friendly
3) within 45 mins of commute
3 out of 3 has already been picked by folks decade ago
Here are some options:
Oakland or some area close to SFO - cheaper option and closer. Would not vouch for family friendly/safety though, especially Oakland.
Fremont / Daly City - decent price and still not too far. Traffic can be painful if you choose to drive into the city but there are BART option.
South of SF to San Jose area - aside from places next to google, Facebook etc, you can find decent price range places. But commute can be challenging with just some train options which aren’t as convenient as Bart imho.
Dublin/Pleasanton/Livermore - about 50 miles from SF. You can still get into the city with BART in an hour or you can choose to drive 6am or earlier in the morning for 45 mins. Great suburbs for family. And price are cheap compare to SF or even other option. Just a bit far from city life.
Overall, 45 mins commute can be a challenge as it may take 45 mins even in the city during rush hour. I’d suggest to look for option with accessible to Bart
Agree with assoc2...might want to live in city as you won’t save TOO much more living outside. Also depends if you have children or not and if you are working outside of city.
Family friendly neighborhoods in city: Bernal Heights, Noe Valley, Potrero Hill, Glen Park, Sunset, Richmond, Cow Hollow,
No where!
It’s only a 45 minute flight from Sacramento
In Nevada
Hahahahaha
I think you are vastly underestimating the traffic and overall commute. 45 min is probably barely out of the city. CoL in SF is insane
I know one place. The homeless shelter in the city. But hurry, Mark wants to relocate his new batch of employees to that dump.
Daly City
Alameda, Oakland, Berkeley
Tech companies have driven up housing costs.
You probably need to consider looking east of 680 and plan to commute in by train if you have to go into downtown SF. Otherwise it’s going to be even more expensive.
Petaluma
Oakland! Be a pioneer and invest in good security. Your property value will surely skyrocket over time.
Oakland is not that dangerous, y'all. It's gentrified AF. I feel safer there than in NYC. There are less people around in general
But seriously Oakland is up and coming and I would argue actually safer than SF now.
Sunnyvale, I suppose, is slightly cheaper. But again, your commute is gonna suck
Why don't you talk to locals?
Man OP got destroyed.
Tech companies are real estate companies now.
