I'm super thankful to be single and not have to worry about my income as much because it's just myself. I also live a bit of a distance outside of the city, so I get a higher rate of pay but am able to live more comfortably as the suburbs are much more cheaper than the actual major city where I work.
That being said, are increase for cost of living tends to be between 4-5%. But coming from a non-profit background, that's so much better than what I used to get, which was never an annual increase for any reason. I was only able to get extra money for a lot of business case scenarios, but it was a struggle.
My raise was a little less than yours. My paychecks now are $50 less than they were a year ago because of the increase in our benefit cost. We are struggling. We have cut out all date nights, extra eating out, and pretty much anything we dont need. We also cut out a ton of prepackaged snacks to save cost.
It's hard to cut out things we used to take for granted. Hopefully, things will turn around soon.
Oh hell yeah. The cost of living has out paced my salary two times over. I doubt things will ever even out.
I am sorry to hear that although we are going through a bad economy and job market plus the extra, we are paying for goods and services to pay for the tariffs which some thinks are being paid by the exporters doesn't help either.
Even though it was only a 2% raise, just be glad you have a job with all the thousands out of work and those soon to be laid off.
The best thing you can do is find where you can make cuts and live at or below your means.
The good news is that supposedly the inflation rate supposedly fell to be under 3% which should make some prices come down BUT I will believe it when I see it.
