My current group is not very supportive of my promotion. One of my directors said s/he would like to keep me as an associate (rather than a senior) for as long as a/he could, so this way I can get exposure to a lot of things and become a successful senior. And I can get the best rating from s/he as an associate.

I am the go-to person of our group. Everyone loves to put me on their engagements and I get good ratings from everyone. People who came to PwC at the same time with me got promoted

That’s a weird comment as if your learning stops as soon as you become a senior. Learning never stops

like

If no promo to senior in at max 3 year you need to leave

like

In the meantime practice “senioring” where you can. Try to take some responsibility from those above. Maybe try and take over the coordination with outsourced teams. That’s the best place to start

Sounds pretty crappy tbh. We don’t treat people like that at EY. Happy to give you a referral. Just DM me. 😀

Are you me? I worked with a manager like that. It all depends on team and how supportive they are. Eventually I left the firm in a good term, but I wish they were more supportive to staffs. All the best.

There is so much demand right now for accountants and everyone wants that referral fee so take people up on their offer and see if it’s a good fit at another firm.

(different group but we do similar stuff) and I was told it’s a bit early for me to get promoted to senior.

I don’t mind working long hours, but I think I should at least get what I deserve. I got tier 2 this year and a joke raise of 6.28%. I start to think if it’s a good choice to stay in my group. What I heard from that director I think was just plain selfish. I don’t know if I’m overthinking it. Would you stay in a group like this?

What team are you in? Does your team have promotion timeline of 1.5-2.25 years?

Getting promoted to senior was not that big of deal when I worked at Deloitte and another national firm. Pwc must really hold value to the senior title. What will the senior title give you? I didn’t think titles mattered that much between staff and senior and more so how much responsibility they give you.

I agree with SA1 about playing politics. I have learned it the hard way at PwC. I recently joined the firm and so far I can see a lot of politics in my group. If you don’t get people to support you, even you do really good job, nobody will ever advocate for you and the people who don’t like you can influence the rest of the team.

I wonder if the director would accept a demotion to round out his/her experience?

S/he said s/he stayed for three years at each level when she was staff. S/he tried to us it to reason that it’ll be good for me too.

It sounds like a $$ problem w/ fees and services that you don't really have control over, other than to look inside or outside where you are.

Come on over! Water’s warm over here…

We need Seniors as well.

They want you to work hard and push yourself just so you can get some good ratings with no monetary award or career progression? And their excuse is that you can learn more if you don’t get promoted? Lol PA is getting out of control

If they want to keep you as associate just to give you a better rating, that’s a BS. More likely just because they want to use you as much as they can and you’re at lower rate

Hi all,
I’m currently working for a small technical consulting start-up firm. I make good money, have great benefits, and they seem very happy with the work I’m doing, so I know I could move up quickly. However, tech consulting is definitely not my dream job. I want to get into data analytics, and I have an offer from a big company to do just that. I’ve only been at my current company for about 8 months, but I don’t ever see myself loving this job. How do I know when it’s time to make a change?

Hello, I recently was reached out to by an in-house recruiter at a similar but slightly different company than the one I currently work for. The recruiter provided a base range and an OTE range. The lower end of that range is what I am currently making. The higher end of that range is almost 200k more than my current comp. The role is almost identical. I wasn’t looking to move, but that higher end range would set my family up very nicely for our goals. But I am happy at my current company. Help?
