I think you should stay out of your daughter's business and stop speculating on the founders motives which might be more than just a tax write off and cheap labour - let her determine whether it's a bothersome as opposed to her Dad telling her it is
If you don't understand - you're THAT founder. Also - who said he's not letting her determine this on her own. He's just posting his own opinion as millions of people do on the internet every single day.
How appalling. Reminds me of my "friends" who contact me when they need a baby sitter because I love my "nieces and nephews" so much lol.
Omg that's the craziest example of "we're like a family" start up culture I've ever heard. What cheapskates. I would not be attending that holiday "party."
That's what I would do. This is my daughter's first "real" job after she got her master degree and she claims it's an opportunity to meet all the employees, since many of them work remotely, or come to the office at different times, depending on room availability, to meet with their clients. This was presented as an "integration in action" event. I find it really troubling that the owner simply uses free labor, and these young adults do not see it as such.
Ha how typical. What a fun "party"! You're not overreacting, that's cheap as hell. I can't imagine being so tactless.
Sounds like a lawsuit against a company that doesn’t want to be sued by someone that has been in charge since it started
Small businesses are really squeezed so if it allows them to make payroll and save a few dollars, I’m not opposed. If Deloitte asked me to come paint the office, I’d have a different opinion!
These are hourly employees not being paid during the painting time - is that the correct understanding?
If salary - its not free labor, its just a team activity to get a poorly done paint job.
If hourly - I used to get paid for these events, so it was okay on my side given the level of effort required was basically minimal.
If hourly and not paid, fine to have a holiday party but there can be no obligation to paint.
--> Unpopular opinion/triggering altert 😱
Sorry, I can’t make your holiday party.
Sounds like you're writing a Silicon Valley episode. I would be "busy that night".
