This is crazy. What if there’s not enough work? What if you bill 12 hours one day - do you get the PTO back? Do you have unlimited PTO so it doesn’t actually make a difference or a limited amount?
We have 25 days PTO & sick days combined. Also did not hear that we would get any hours back for billing more on any allotted day.
They are tired of the PTO accuring on their balance sheets. They instituted this policy to reduce the liability, probably because lawyers don't take vacations. But anyway, it's a goofy policy because every minute that you spend in your office isn't billable but they still have to pay you.
I don't know if the labor regs allow forced PTO. If I were you, I would have a conversation with the Department of Labor.
ID is enough reason to get out without this extra BS. They probably aren’t doing well financially if they are pulling this. I assume they have some insane billable target too like 2200. Run away, don’t look back. You can find the same pay or better for a much better situation.
Unfortunately, I think this is going to start becoming the norm. The billable structure does not recognize that people cannot work 100% all day everyday. I would start looking for a better environment. Good luck!
Idk but I would get out asap. That's ridiculous. How big is your firm? They don't treat their lawyers like professionals.
If they don't trust their own lawyers, why hire them? Polish up your resume and find a new role. I wouldn't tolerate that rubbish. It's insulting.
I’d get it if they would do something like this over a month. At a firm I used to work at, we had an attorney who would bill like 13 hours a day and 4 the next. But to do daily checks like that doesn’t make a ton of sense.
