So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

What is firm
Are you sure your friend was employed?
😳
If he/she is a consultant 10k is not top performer bonus rather low one
ZS who?
Who?
We don't really do lay-offs so likely was a performance issue...
How was his reviews
I am
ZS doesn't have layoff waves like some of the others represented here. It is either a performance or professionalism issue for sure. As a matter of fact, staffing has been challenging for a long time
He was a very good performer, his utilization was low but only in last 2 months. But he was actively working with managers and directors on pursuits.
I am sure ZS does layoffs. Maybe not in waves but there could be any number of factors. I was in HR in a previous life and it could easily be budgets, different strategy etc. etc.
OP, your friend was counselled out, for sure. There are no firm-wide layoffs.
It's likely professionalism since you mention performance wasn't a problem. We don't lay off for low utilization generally - I know someone who was unstaffed completely for half a year and she is still at ZS. Which office are we talking? Chicago/Evanston usually have many people getting counseled out every quarter.
@OP this story doesnt sound right
SFO
^that is weird
Counseling out for low utilization is different based on level. A/ACs shouldn't be counseled for low utilization (especially with the new spaces model). Consultants in the other hand have some expectation to be selling work and need to have staffing to stay. I've seen a few consultants leave ZS because they haven't been able to get work or sell work.
He had excellent reviews last year, and got a good bonus (10k).. HR told him that they have to let him go due to restructuring, it was totally out of the blue which even his manager was surprised with. After a bit of digging from his manager, he got to know that this is fairly common at ZS and that you'd not know until someone really close to you is laid off
A bit weird though OP. Was your friend a consultant ?
