I don't see any reasonable upside to this refusal especially given how limited a toddler's understanding of health and safety is.
At the bare minimum, dresses and shelves should be anchored to the wall and the sockets ought to be covered.
Those are things that lead to child deaths every single day and are really simple.
I did it as a kid lol. Almost electrocuted myself with a paperclip
There is no upside to not making your house safer. Do the basics at minimum 1). Chemicals cleaners poisons locked up 2) outlets covered 3) stairs with gates it’s not hard.
How old is he and what do you think needs to be baby proofed? Obviously things like gates at stairs can be a definite, but not every cabinet needs to be locked, or bumpers put on the corners of tables.
Yea I'd want that stuff moved also. Had cactus needles in my own hand once by accident and it took forever for me to pull them all out and hurt like an SOB. Can't imagine trying to hold a toddler down to do that.
She just might have to lose a book or two to learn. When you have kids you gotta give up some things.
Just but some glass door cabinets and put the stuff in there.
How old? Pretty sure she will come around..
5 kids and we never baby proofed anything. Never had a kid severely injured. Just have to deal with the occasional broken plate or slice jar.
This happened in my case as well.
We compromised by concentrating "don't touch" things in a specific corner or entirely out of reach, so the kid can go wherever else.
I also unilaterally put bumpers and lockers on things I thought were either dangerous for the kid or that she would eventually break by accident. And it wasn't an issue after that.
I stressed that this was now her (baby) house too and she should have similar rights as we do for how it is. And that her safety is a few orders of magnitude above the aesthetic details of the living room, for a couple of years.
Parent of a 20 month old…similar to AC 1 with those 3 listed along with the additional anchoring of non wall mounted TV’s. We had a few bumpers on stair edges but those were pointless. Wife did install bathroom seat locks that drive me crazy 😛
