Gave interview in TCS, it went pretty well. At the end, the tech interviewer asked my expected ctc. After mentioning as 27lpa, he asked if can be negotiated, told yes.
After that didn't get any feedback, its been around 5days.
Is 27lpa too much fr tcs? 🤔

Don’t most strategy shops also let you do M&A projects? No reason to take a $80k pay cut for a potential exit that may not even be better
Big 4 is mm m&a, a lot of manufacturing , b2b retail etc.
If you can get CDD experience at the T2, you’ll have plenty of taking points for VC recruiting. I personally think the T2 is a no-brainer.
I’m at a big 4, M&A Strategy specializing in inorganic growth and diligence and we do zero VC targeting. I worked in VC during my MBA and found that operating experience at startups gives you a better foundation for VC then consulting. They’re two completely different ball games.
Definitely take the t2, ngl I don’t think b4 transaction advisory is looked upon all that favourably by VCs vs t2 (VC employees correct me)
Yeah tbh if the t2 has some clout e.g. EYP then I’d imagine a bank would prefer you over b4 M&A despite no fin modelling exp
Do I take the m&a role, learn a ton and pivot through that route or take consulting? I should state I have gotten 2 VC interviews already through networking so I have story that has works a bit but at later stage / growth the deal experience comes up.
Option 3: join a start up, no offer on table
If you want to work in VC there are so many roles higher my right now, if you move already worked with startups I’d keep looking for an associate role and get your foot in the door. Otherwise choose whichever is going to give you a better work life balance where you could start building your VC network in your spare time, build your experience and maybe become a scout for a while
Off topic, but why such a stark comp difference? I
80k to almost double is huge.
Background in consulting not m&a, two different skill sets, competition is high for banking so I have no leverage really
What is the total comp for the associate role? Doesn’t it get you to the same place? Surely it’s not $80k total comp.....
Yep - no bonus at big 4 until manager level in Canada.
Dude, which strat house? I’m at big4 DA in Canada and the salary is so low, want to switch
