I am a graduating student who just got offered 65k for a solution analyst role at Deloitte USDC (Data Engineering Focus). From reading previous posts it seems to be a lot of negative thoughts surrounding the USDC, but straight out of college is this a good opportunity?
I'm looking to gain as much experience as possible out of college in an IT role and wondering what exit opportunities may be in place a year or two down the road if there is little/slow progression.
Any Advice?

No matter what it takes time, dedication, focus, and some intelligence to pass all four exams and get the 150 credits. Can’t discredit anyone who goes through with it and gets the certification. There’s a reason why 70% of the population doesn’t have one
I’m sorry to hear that KPMG1. It’s the helping clients and helping our people that gives it meaning to me. It isn’t for everyone, however the CPA designation along with your experience should position you well to find a place that provides what your looking for. Good Luck
It took me a while, but I passed the CPA exam and I by no means think I am super smart. But I know for damn sure I have tenacity and perseverance. I think that is what the CPA designation signifies more than 'genius.' It's a testament to your work ethic in my opinion.
Exactly. I would never describe myself as smart or intelligent, but I do think I am more resilient, tenacious, organized, and have better time management than most people.
You’re correct, the cpa exam does not test anything that relates to rocket science. It tests the various aspects of accounting, and some finance concepts as well.
And your technical skills with operating Windows 95
Not trying to humble brag. I was a straight A student in undergrad/grad school. High performer at work. I am not a CPA and people who scraped by in college that I used to feed answers to are CPAs. It has nothing to do with smarts, has to do with time commitment and repetition that I don’t want to dedicate to more exams. War of attrition.
Agreed, most of it is just dedication. I really struggled in college and got a 2.6 gpa but I work really hard and am a cpa. Hopefully going to leave FDD and PA soon though
It is pretty difficult if you’re working in public accounting and studying at the same time
The CPA exam is more of a test of perseverance and dedication rather than aptitude. I have more respect for those “some ppl” than I do those that are naturally gifted. It’s an impressive feat regardless.
Reading all these comments and I’m here struggling with FAR 😢😢. Taking next month ugghhhh
Hang in there, you got this!! Studying too :)
If you put in the effort, you will pass. How much effort depends on the person.
Have you taken it?

The CPA is more memorization than actual knowledge. I know CPAs who got laid off for non-performance and some really smart ones who are unable to pass it.
What do you need to memorize something? Time and repetition. Which is what the practice exams are.
Certain parts are definitely memorization. But you still need to understand accounting… you can’t really bs it

Only took me like 15 attempts, but I gots me them letters.

Lol nah I got those on the first try. Low bar.
Anyone can pass it if they have enough drive to study.
Like most things in life, it’s about putting in the work to get it done.
It just takes time and commitment. I don’t think it has to do with intelligence per se. It’s challenging because of the amount of material they cover.
It’s not a barometer of being good at your job, but it is a barometer of personal discipline.
CPA is a tough exam, but if you want to tell if someone is sharp or not GMAT might be a better exam
ST2 “not to diss on your score” and then you diss on the score! 🙄 I actually think it smart of EY7 to know what they need to get in to the program they want and then spend their time living their life as opposed to over preparing for the GMAT. The only purpose of the GMAT is to get you in to the school you have chosen. After that, no one cares what you got. The CPA has much longer implications in your life. But again, nobody cares about your scores once you’ve passed.
The Bar exam is the same. I know plenty of people that I don’t know how they even passed high school and they have passed the bar
It tests for a baseline level of intelligence and focus. I believe most college educated Americans if they studied and committed themselves to the CPA they could pass. You’re right, it’s not very complex subject matter (nobody ever said accountants were the smartest - there’s a reason we’re not doctors or venture capitalists), but it demonstrates commitment to the accounting profession and that is something to be valued.
Of course not all doctors are smart. But the average doctor is significantly smarter than the average accountant. Anybody who can score well enough on their MCAT to get into medical school can pass the CPA with limited effort, the difficulty is not comparable at all. They are in different universes.

I know some CPA that struggle to use excel…..so not so sure about this one

I know some pretty smart people that couldn’t pass and some absolute dopes that did 🤷🏻♀️
