No matter what it takes time, dedication, focus, and some intelligence to pass all four exams and get the 150 credits. Can’t discredit anyone who goes through with it and gets the certification. There’s a reason why 70% of the population doesn’t have one
I’m sorry to hear that KPMG1. It’s the helping clients and helping our people that gives it meaning to me. It isn’t for everyone, however the CPA designation along with your experience should position you well to find a place that provides what your looking for. Good Luck
It took me a while, but I passed the CPA exam and I by no means think I am super smart. But I know for damn sure I have tenacity and perseverance. I think that is what the CPA designation signifies more than 'genius.' It's a testament to your work ethic in my opinion.
Exactly. I would never describe myself as smart or intelligent, but I do think I am more resilient, tenacious, organized, and have better time management than most people.
Pro
Only have to know if long enough to apply it once to get the CPA. You don't truly acquire the real knowledge until you're applying it repeatedly in practice.
What about people who pass all on the first try?
It’s not that hard of a test. The pass rate on each of these is about 50%. Some peoples study habits need work - you can’t spend weeks and weeks studying you’ll just end up forgetting what you’ve learned in the early weeks.
Yes it’s not rocket science at all. In fact I am a CA from UK too & did the US CPA after moving here. I must say I found the exams much easier. Less by way of syllabus, easier questions, just one level to pass. Actually CFA is a better challenge than CPA if you ask me.
I think most people would agree CFA is tougher than CPA
The exam was difficult for me. I would say I'm slightly above average intelligence (based off of SAT/PSAT/GMAT/never ending to study to get As and Bs in college).
This exam was harder than anything I have ever taken. Of course I've never taken the MCAT or a bar exam, nor do I have the series 7 or anything.
The tests are constantly evolving so they are different now than when I took them almost a decade ago.
I think it reflects a combination of intelligence and work ethic that varies from one person to the next.
I also think I was much more driven and well versed on a wider range of technical accounting issues when I took the exam than I am now.
Also I can be a complete idiot sometimes. We all can.
