It’s all project-based, so what you work on is heavily dependent on what you get put on. Can be accounting standards updates, process optimization, technical support for audit, etc. Generally hours are better than audit (no busy season), but you can work a ton if you’re approaching a deadline. I got a huge salary bump (~30%) when I switched from audit to FAAS. However, 1. I was also promoted from S1 -> S2, 2. I’m in FSO so they generally pay more, and 3. I’m in a high CoL city.
Email me if you want more info: referme2faas@gmail.com. I’m happy to talk to you about it.
There’s a FAAS board
Oh also potentially a lot of travel if there isn’t a lot of local work
I’m currently in audit, highly rated overall and for technical knowledge. Just wondering what people’s thoughts are between moving from audit work into more of what FAAS does - experiences? Thoughts? Salary differences? Thanks!
Thanks for the insight, EY 2. Do you enjoy the work and what you do more than audit (same ? to you EY 3)? Do you feel like you’re pigeonholed in a specific area? I’m very intrigued by FAAS, but I guess not sure if the switch would be worth it.
I will definitely reach out though EY 3! Thank you!
@OP overall yes - the work simply isn’t as checklist-based as audit (which ended up being really boring to me) and it’s nice being on the advisory side where the client actually wants your input. It’s definitely all based on your projects though - which is a little frustrating because you don’t really have any control over that
EY 2 - how did you manage such a high bump? Did you negotiate? I’m in a high CoL city as well and did not receive as generous of a bump when I switched from our regional practice. To your point, could be because you were coming from FSO
EY4 - I think most of it is honestly because I’m in FSO. I had a friend interviewing for commercial FAAS (same level and city) and they quoted him about $10k less for a S2 position. I also came from audit, which has pretty low pay in comparison to advisory.
