Congrats and welcome! To level set though you’re coming in from a single industry and SAP instance. While you’re, I’m assuming, very well versed on your SAP instance in the medical device industry this doesn’t necessarily translate across industries which you’ll be expected to consult across.
I think a C role would be a good starting point, unless you have relevant direct management experience then push for an SC role. At Deloitte it’s better to be a high performer early on then enter in as a mediocre performer while you learn the firm.
Compensation wise I’d agree with M1, shoot for $105-110k.
I’m in Atlanta, if that helps. Also, if you’ve never worked in consulting before and you’re not confident in leading deliverables and driving them to closure then come in at a C level and ask that your promotion time period would be 1 year, I.e. after 1 year you’d get promoted. The only bad part about coming in as a C is that at a C level your salary range would be more constricted. You may not get the low 100k, maybe more like 90k something
I think you should ask to come in as a senior con
7k sign on
@EY1 : Not sure I understood that.... can you please elaborate
@Deloitte 2 : great point. I will definitely pitch that but from a compensation viewpoint can you help approximate ?
That is an excellent and priceless suggestion. That is the number I had in my mind but was hesitant since I perceived this number meant for Senior Consultant position only.... I will shoot for this number by preparing my case accordingly....
Nope. We have top performing SCs with 6 years of experience making 120. You will not be getting that (and if you do jump on it). I’d expect 100-118
Absolutely: I should be getting one very soon... will come back with what I was offered .... thank so much for your valuable info.
Hello all : this is the update.... Absolutely shocked by response from recruiter. I was offered 100k no bonus: take it or leave offer. When asked as to why such low compensation the answer was no specific reason. Deloitte hires people typically from competitors and was implied that since I have not worked for Accenture / IBM/E&Y I do not have experience in working for big consulting firms. Is this justifiable or am I day dreaming that this is pure differentiation....
Please advise ....
Honestly, it’s your call. Deloitte is a great firm but the market is hot right now - I think consulting is a long term game, 5-10k might seem like a lot right now but it’s peanuts when you move up the ladder.
If this would have been the case I honestly would have been ok but when asked to why the offer is so low the recruiter said the national SAP leader apparently reduced the salary and for NO specific reason. This is what is difficult for me to comprehend. Also if they say they typically hire folks from competitors then why even bother calling me for an interview and then paying me way lesser then the market standards ?
120 plus 14% bonus

$105k
Thank you for the input .... but what if my current bracket is around 100k.... would this number be still negotiable ?
$125-130k, be prepared to present your case appropriately. Deloitte does try to bring industry expertise in a level lower to learn the ropes of the consulting side to allow for learnings on the other side of the business.
Also please let me know what’s the bonus structure like..... ?
Performance based, variable up to ~20% for top performers at a C somewhat similar SC level. Also dependent on the group you’re entering into meeting their fiscal targets. The bonus pool is funded based on your group meeting or exceeding targets and impacts your percentage positively or negatively accordingly.
I got an MBA and got 140k with just 4 years of experience. YMMV
@Deloitte 4 : Is it like a hard rule that only for SC’s the range can be negotiated at 120k plus ? I am asking since I am hoping for an at least 15-20% raise from my current bracket. Just don’t want to get low balled since I am new to the consulting industry but I have the required skill set and experience necessary for this.
