Okay, maybe, maybe, it would be a bad time to ask for a raise. However, I did discuss getting a raise with my manager, and he promised me I would get one soon…That was almost two months ago. I had revisited the topic with him last month, and he assured me a raise was forthcoming. But I haven’t heard anything more since. How do I follow up with my manager again without sounding pushy or coming off desperate? Should I wait a few more weeks?

If you're a federal employee it's definitely an awkward time to be asking for a raise. Assuming you're not federal, if you had been promised a raise and things seem to have stalled, be bold and bring it up again. Don't worry about sounding pushy or desperate, you've got a legitimate right to know what's going on.

like

If they're a federal employee, they don't get raises by "asking" or "discussing."
Raises come when they apply to a higher grade and get selected after competing with others who want that job.

The other way that raises come is by staying in the grade and step the required amount of time to get a step increase

I assume you work in local government, so I guess it depends on what things are like in your state or county.

With state and fed revenue transfers is in the toilet or on stall mode. I’d bring up the raise in the 6th month. But if you are beyond a rookie and have some serious experience and other jobs are offering higher pay, then consider the other jobs as you might be stuck in a stalled job that is frozen. If you’re a trades type worker, then scout out other jobs if the current job can’t help make life easier. But if your job is specialized then your odds are limited and might have to ride out your job. Right now is like 2008-2012 and jobs were held as unemployment was insane. So be happy to have a gig instead of being unemployed when the $hit hits the fan.

I think it would be good for you to wait a few more weeks. but worth to know that your manager many not have full control to make a raise happen, so you have to also search for better job that perfectly feats your career ambition in other organization or in different department with in your organization.

My family and I have been looking to move to an island. My spouse works remote and can relocate at any time. My firm has an office on said island, but they don’t pay me enough to live there. I would have to ask for a raise and to be relocated. I love my firm and the Partners that I work for, but I’m thinking of applying to other places that offer a more livable salary for the location. Would you just talk to the Partners at your current firm or look elsewhere?

Hey folks. Question for the majority of us still under the big 3 holding co’s...are raises a thing anymore? I’ve been at my (smaller) agency almost 5yrs and got one raise (a nice $12k bump) during that time—is that sufficient? Is one increase in that span normal? I also recognize being somewhere 5 years is rare these days. The honeymoon period at any agency seems to be 2.5—3yrs before bolting. Not complaining, just asking. Have y’all been getting raises/bumps in any kind of regular cycle? Thx.

I've done so well in this new role within the company that they are hiring another person to assist with what I do. I've voiced to my boss that I'd like to manage this department and they indicated that this is the thought for the future. Now they are asking me to train this person while I have my plate full. Is it wrong for me to expect either a promotion or to be paid to train this person?

When I negotiated my comp, all my discussions were around me being a junior and I only accepted my comp for that reason (would not have accepted if I was step above junior since it was low). Negotiations happened with HR, but my offer letter and documents never mention junior (but I have proof from HR saying I am a junior). How do I approach this with my boss as I’m not sure she’s aware I’m actually technically a junior? Revolving around asking for a move up + raise

I have been in an awkward reporting structure for 2.5 years. On record I’ve reported to the VP of Marketing, who was crazy toxic, and technologically inept. I’m a senior website manage and she had no interest in my role. She shirked me off to also report to her two directors, PR and Call Center. Needless to say, that’s been a difficult situation for me. She’s gone and the new VP starts tomorrow. Any guidance on how to ensure this ends with the incumbent VP?

A HR question I really want to understand. ISRS HR quoted a podcast "The not so great resignation" saying 70% regret leaving and many want to go back to old employer. If this really the case the employee likely left due to higher pay at the new company. If they want to boomerang back they will likely come back at even a higher rate than they left the new company for. So getting double raise when they boomeranged. Isn't it unbeneficial, why not just give employee a 7% raise in the first place?
