I spend about 20k a year. I make approx 240k. I’m probably over spending but my parents are getting old and they were never able to travel so I’m working through their bucket lists trips before their mobility gets bad. I’m covering for 2-3 adults each trip.
Pro
I don’t have revenue targets. I’m in a support role and just need to hit my hours
If you hadn’t asked, I probably wouldn’t have done the math.
Please note I’m foreign too.
TC 100
3 international trips ~7k
3-5 domestic trips ~1 k each
+3-5 domestic golf trips ~500-750 each just with buddies, couple of tee times during long weekends
Would love to get more, but RTO messed it up.
1 international trip 3-4k (economy air + Airbnbs)
3-7 domestic trips 1k each (weddings, long weekends - NYC, Miami, etc)
Single / I make 110k.
🤝
I usually do one international vacation, one smaller domestic one, and a long weekend every month or two. Would estimate maybe $15k or so a year for myself and my SO
Chief
Probably $15-$20k for myself, making $300-$400k depending on bonus.
Maybe a bit extravagant at times, but I’m mid-30s, single, no kids, what else am I gonna spend the money on other than myself
I try to keep it to $10k for myself. My bf doesn’t really keep a budget for travel. HHI is ~$300k. We tend to take 2 international and 1-2 domestic trips a year. This year, we have planned 2-3 international (I just took a solo international trip) and 2 domestic trips. Similar to D1, I plan to start covering for my mom to bring her on trips with us next year.
D1, what are some places you took them that they enjoyed? Was it mostly relaxing - beach itineraries or active exploring? Have asked my parents to do same but it’s always, we’ll get tired…
My parents take more vacations than me as they’re 77 and have free time! At least 3 cruises a year and one good intl trip. I’m thinking of taking my dad to a major tennis match sometime soon. Wimbledon, French Open, Olympics, etc. Mainly I just spend $ to go visit them in FL. (My personal vacations though are at least 2 or 3 major Europe trips or ski trips to the Rockies per year, budget $5-8k leveraging miles of course).
30k. 800k HHI, spend was the same when it was 250k. About 3 international trips per year, don't do domestic anymore. 2 adults, 1 kid. One of the trip each year we take my parents as well.
Wow. Can’t say i spend too much. Under 3k a year. We’ve never had that much excess to travel much.
I make 215k now but it was only 120k five years ago. LCOL city was crippling.
About 20k for 3 people (2 adults, 1 child). Current HHI ~400k, but we’ve been spending like this even when it was only myself and my SO probably since HHI was about 150k since we love to travel.
I don’t think I have an average per year, but I’ll spend $200-1000 on a domestic trip (at the low end will be camping trips in my own state) and expect an international trip to have a $2k-4k budget. I’m usually a solo traveler. My current income is around $65k/year. I’m frugal and like simply most of the time. Travel is my splurge.
Annual salary ~250k cash/bonus. Wife and kids (11,6,5). Two family vacations about $5-7keach (drive to beach on Gulf/ Atlantic) and my wife and I use my hotel / airline points for another each year. So all in maybe $12-15k annually.
It varies each year.
Thank you all! Very helpful to know.

This year probably $40k -income ext about 600/700
Probably ranges between $6-10k. 25 years old $160k-ish income. I usually do 1-2 international trips with my girlfriend and 1 international trip with some buddies. Always leverage points etc. Travel is the best thing to spend money on in my opinion
Travel is the best thing to spend money while you’re young and childless
I think 2024 will be the last year I can use airline miles for vacation as I don’t travel for work anymore. I am still get stays paid via my Hilton Grand Vacation points. We take 2 major vacations per year each about 2 weeks and many long weekends. Hard $s <$5 k, which includes meals, excursions, seat upgrades, etc. I am not looking forward to 2025.
I spend approximately 5-15k, Vacations are too intimate/personal for me to use a travel & tours agency. I rather pay someone who’s good with making a travel guide. I tell them what I want to do and they’ll work around that. I don’t want to see myself with a group of strangers.
Thought I spend a lot but obviously most do too. We take 3-4 family vacations a year. Haven’t don’t any international since COVID. Mostly road-trips and skiing trips. Our skiing trip to Park Cities, UT over the Christmas break already set us back $5k. Lift ticket and ski equipment alone was $1500. Airplane ticket was about $1000. Last summer, took a 3 week 5000 mile Roadtrip from Texas to Canada. That was around $5000 as well. Took a 5 day cruise over last Memorial Day (week) and attended a wedding. That one set us back about $2000. Short trip over Spring break to the beach, $2000. In all I would say we spend about $10-$15k a year on domestic trips. 3 of us with dual incomes.
Last year probably around 10-12k for my husband and I. This year so far probably 6-8k for our honeymoon but used points for some things. Our goal is under 20k for the two of us as we might go on a month long vacation but aim to use points for as much as possible.
Household income of 350k and minimal other expenses (expensive house but no car, don't buy many things, mostly spend money on food and some concerts).

Last year was $10k, this year approx. $15k for myself. My income is $145,000.
I incurred debt for some of these trips but some of them were “once in a lifetime” type trips where I knew I had to do it now or wouldn’t get the opportunity again (ie. in my industry, I will likely never have 6 consecutive weeks off again, also have some health issues so wanted to do it now before things get worse) so it was worth it for me.
Roughly $10k but I travel and work abroad for half the year. Mainly in London where I stay for free with friends then take weekend trips all over Europe and SE Asia where I stay for free with my parents in their retirement home. Flights from NYC to London can be as low as $300 each way if you book Norse Airways months in advance. So I don't really spend much more than my regular living expenses.
