I spend about 20k a year. I make approx 240k. I’m probably over spending but my parents are getting old and they were never able to travel so I’m working through their bucket lists trips before their mobility gets bad. I’m covering for 2-3 adults each trip.
Pro
I don’t have revenue targets. I’m in a support role and just need to hit my hours
If you hadn’t asked, I probably wouldn’t have done the math.
Please note I’m foreign too.
TC 100
3 international trips ~7k
3-5 domestic trips ~1 k each
+3-5 domestic golf trips ~500-750 each just with buddies, couple of tee times during long weekends
Would love to get more, but RTO messed it up.
Last year was $16k total for 2 people
7 trips (2 international, 1 cruise, 4 domestic)
BUT... we had companion pass for the year, so that saved us significantly in airfare
Single - $125000, LCOL for me
Not sure what my boyfriend makes
And we each pay out own expenses on trip
So really ~ $8k/per person
Also, we don't travel extravagantly. Generally 3rd world countries where we stay at a VRBO, hike, beaches, a few meals out but also cook in VRBO. We spend on what we want (house literally on beach in Belize) but don't spend for fancy hotels if all we're doing is sleeping there (not to say we don't like an all-inclusive once in a while to just chill.)
It really just depends on what you want out of your vacation.
~$10k for 2-3 Intl trips + domestic trips seems like a great bargain.
Any tips or recommendations on specific cc / loyalty programs and how to really minimize out of pocket costs? Just now catching the travel bug!
Points on credit cards, Capital One Venture is probably my best one. Go places with currency that is weak against your own (easy for me, I’m not really interested in much of Europe anyway, frankly) and stay out of the touristy zones as much as possible. Seek out local accommodations, local markets, make local friends.
Salary is 90K in NYC, and I take about 1 international ($3-5K), then 3-5 smaller/weekend trips ($1-2K each), so probably around $7-10K a year.
$5000-7000/ year ($400-550/mo on my budget) and it’s just me. Salary is $120K. I don’t have kids. My domestic trips are around $400-650 each. 2 cruises/year, 2 domestic trips (Airbnb at a lake weekend, Las Vegas during weekdays) then some longer or more expensive trip. I usually am splitting a hotel or cruise room with my boyfriend, or a friend (sharing a hotel or cruise cabin on a girls trip.) I recently got the chase sapphire reserve card, and am hoping to maximize it. Previously I’ve had Southwest CC for points or Hilton card for points. Southwest is awesome, Hilton just takes too long to earn a room.
Family of 4: we take a family vacation every summer. My wife and I each have separate guys/girls trips, and then we take a trip together. So a total of 4 trips a year.
We take a family vacation every summer, typically to Florida or something. That runs probably $4k.
Our separate guys/gals trips are typically $2k each
And we take a European sailing trip in the early fall with a couple of friends. That’s typically $5k all in
So, roughly $14k in vacations? HHI of around $375k.
Family of 3.. we spend on vacation (individual plus family) 30-40k a year. Combine salary Is 400k
30k a year. 1 international 2 week trip with 2 kids every year when school ends. 1 trip with just husband and I also international. Then several domestic long weekend/getaways with friends. Combined family salary 600K.
We spend $25k-$30k for two adults. My base is $250k+ 40% target bonus. BF’s total comp is about $230k.
