The system understands that you have a right to those days off, but people who determine your career might not. I'd recommend that you be honest and reach out to your project leads. If it is a short project you might be in trouble. If ta a longer role they might be cool with you missing some time
If they need reasons to lay people off (like at EY), you would be a good target. Approved or unapproved vacation does not matter. Taking it can make you more vulnerable to term if push comes to shove
Get used to shitty treatment of your personal life in this business. They own you.
They usually don't give a crap about your personal circumstances. It's all about havin infinite flexibility around the business.
Forget these company worshipping clowns. Take your vacation! Sounds like you e got all the right things in place.
Can't believe the responses in this thread. You have one life. Take the PTO and don't think twice about it.
It's a tough look tbh. 2nd year hire here idk what to tell you — trust your judgement. If you are in danger of getting rolled off right when you get back from vacation then maybe cancel the vacay. Ask your manager/partner and be straight up with them about your concerns. Don't risk your career for your trip. Not enough people are straight forward in this industry. Good time to be straight forward.
So either you spend too much money in your trip or your bonus sucks... generally speaking I'd make it dependent on your standing in the firm. If you feel unsure and value your job - cancel the trip if they make you understand that that's what they expect you to do. Otherwise - and that's what I would do - fuck them! Take your time off
You're fine. You told your new engagement ahead of time and set their expectations? You have the right to take time off and it's sucks that the timing didn't work out but what can you do?
Dude where is this vacation? Can I come?
Go! Life is short. Everyone who needs to know knows. I don't think anything will happen to you especially if you are a newbie.
If you explicitly told the manager on the new project that you would be taking time off and he/she was OK having you on the job then you should be good. If you just dropped the PTO into your scheduling app and expect the manager to look at it then you will likely create a bad impression.
Thank you PWC1. I'm happy to cancel but they will have to reimburse my expenses. I have spent 1.5x my bonus and had already the days off approved.
If your manager on your project approved it and you trust you'll have a role when you get back you should be fine
Why dint you prepone it when you were on the beach ?
What impact could you truly have on a new project that you weren't contributing to in the first place . Be upfront with the leadership of the project and see what they propose . Vacation in the beginning is much better than in the middle or the end when are actually in the trenches of the project have some visibility with the client .
Your comment actually made me feel better EY1. Thanks! :)
OP do the math, if it puts you below 50 be scared
Thanks D2. Btw my trip is very expensive, but my bonus really sucks as well. Lol
Just kill it on the lroject
I'm surprised at all the responses. Sounds like you already communicated it to your counselor and team leads and got it all approved a while back. Only thing to do is to remind them so they aren't thrown off as it gets closer.
