Ugh buddy sorry to hear it. You should have an honest conversation around your career. You shouldn’t have to constantly feel bad about this choice but message that it is a choice and one you make together. Consulting sucks, family is everything, you do what’s best for that
Get full time help and don’t say a word when u are back over the weekend. Just do what the wife says! :-)
Get off the road. There are a ton of local consulting firms or firms like mine that have limited travel
Thanks everyone. Sometimes it’s easier being the one on the road. Yeah you miss the family but you’ve got a team around you to socialize with. I can empathize but doesn’t do much when the wife has two cranky kids...
Be in contact all the time.
Set dedicated time for them every day.
#1-talk through with her the reasons and feelings about it.
Facetime every night after work (or carve 10 minutes out of the day if you're working late) with your wife and kids so they know you're thinking of them. Bringing back gifts unique to your travel places is cool too.
Great advice up there. Only add - we set date nights a month in advance as often as we can.
Activities for the kiddos during the day - keeps them engaged and helps to give Mom a break and can also be a good opportunity to get out of the house / socialize
