I'd advise against moving from dc if you're aligned with the federal practice.
Most of us work both federal and commercial. I'm not sure what everyone's industry alignment is.
.. How long is the engagement?
Uncertain likely around 6-8 months
How's your relationship with the SM/PPD on the engagement?
If good, go for it - Local Offices understand if you don't come by on Fridays, especially if you have a stressful engagement..
Depends on project, I was mostly WFH with occasional in person meetings in office.
Don't really know the partner but know the manager. I'm federal but the major reason I'm going remote is so I can spend time with my SO on the west coast. Not the end of the world if I have to fly back to D.C. every once in a while for a meeting but not sure if it's going to be frequent enough for me to justify keeping my lease as opposed to just getting a hotel when I have to visit. Definitely not planning on coming every Friday haha
I'm on a WFH project and we come in for team meetings once every week or two.
Thanks d2. Does everyone on your team live in the immediate area? I've seen people on WFH federal projects based in Chicago and Atlanta, can't imagine them flying in every Friday
I'm in la and no one comes in on Fridays
This is a federal project. Most of us are in dc, but we have people who live in Philadelphia, Chicago, ATL and two commercial folks out of NYC. They commute down and that's charged internally.
So the people in Chicago and Philly are federal people who just decided to live in those cities and they can still charge their travel internally? Sorry for the questions, just trying to figure out how I can make this work
Oh so it's a cross-sector project. Not sure if that works the same way then but thanks for the info!
Agreed, I already have a place to stay out west since I'll be moving in with my SO but I was hoping to save money by getting rid of my lease until the project is over. Would be so much easier if I was commercial
You'll probably want to go in the office occasionally to see people. I go in most Tuesdays.
Yeah I was more hoping to alternate months between coasts because the flight is a pain/expensive but I guess I'll have to negotiate with my manager based on project needs
