One thing I realized recently when getting represented to shops I’ve never worked with before is that because my rate is on the higher end, I sometimes get turned down and the client will often choose a cheaper option instead, despite I may be “a strong fit” and “client loves your work”. I wonder if it’s actually because I’m too expansive or just an easy excuse? Also feel like my rate seems to cap at certain level and will be hard to keep raising it in the future - any thoughts around this?

I’m a senior planner leading one brand and there’s a new strategist on the team working on a sister brand. They’ve been asking for every strategy deck I’ve made on that brand as an example to go by to inform the thinking/flow on the sister brand. How has anybody had luck with getting freelance account gigs? Been silent in LA

I’ve been a freelance print production designer for many years, and usually on-site in the before times. Now I work remote, and am finding it uneasy dealing with billing. Before I always billed hourly, which made sense, but it’s becoming an issue now. Some companies don’t have a full days’ work, so it seems wrong to bill full days, and it allows me to juggle projects for different companies, but my billable hours are down. I know I should bill a daily rate, but not sure that will fly. Thoughts?
