Generally seems like Boston pays about the same or a little more than Chicago, but less than NY or SF.
My company is ~50% remote but smaller so we have a more basic geo-pay policy. CA, NY, WA, and MA are considered “high-cost” states - if you leave one of them you can expect a salary reduction of 10-15%.

Varies by company. My company has NY, MA, and CA as same tier
I’ve found quite often companies underpay here relative to the COL and give similar comp to what’s offered in Chicago. This was even worse before COVID when increased remote work gave our labor pool more options and forced employers to be more competitive. SF in general pays the highest in the US but it depends on the company. Some companies don’t adjust, others adjust heavily.
When I moved from Chicago to Boston (pre-Covid), my company didn’t adjust me down but I’ve gotten awful raises since because they claim I’m overpaid for the Boston market even tho the COL is noticeably higher here. With more ppl remote/virtual now, they’re more likely to adjust up or down based on where you live but Boston is still underpaid compared to COL/other markets.
