Got an offer for a sales applications manager role at Cisco and a Strategic AE role at Amazon - both are basically the same pay (130~ base, 220 OTE)
I don’t have any friends at either company so I was curious if anyone has experience and can shed some light on culture/ work life balance to help me make a decision? Thanks for the help guys!
When do you feel the most purpose?

If you have such extensive experience, why aren’t you going through your professional network or recruiters? That’s always going to me more successful than cold applying.
Recruiters are not who they used to be, imo. I recently relocated so don’t really know many people in the current city I live in.
I don’t think 8 years is director level. Have you tried a SM level?
I feel your pain. I was a public accounting manager with 6 years of experience when I wanted out. It took like 8-9 months to find a company willing to match (forget about exceeding) my PA salary. I imagine it could be even tougher for you.
In an ideal scenario, you would have a big client that likes you well enough to hire you directly if there's an opening.
What level are you at op? The job market is tough especially for higher level. So many competitors out there. Doesn’t mean you are not good or qualified just because they may prefer other competitors or internal transfers which makes process easier for them. Good luck!!
Good to know. Thank you!
9 YOE and also a SM been actively looking and applying for almost 2 years. I’ve realized my major issue is that I’ve only worked in public accounting. When going for industry accounting positions at this level almost all of them require someone with industry experience or when I do get the interview they ultimately go with someone with industry experience. I’m at the point I’m willing to take a $20k pay cut but still having trouble.
Ugh, in that case I would probably stay until the firm pushes me out. I am not wiling to take a 20K pay cut yet. Good luck to you!
I could be wrong but the market is not at its best. It may be the reason. We can only hope it gets better. I tell myself everyday that at least I am employed.
8 YOE sounds like just new SM to me in the firms, or you already have 2-3 years being SM role so far? 8 YOE in industry just being as manager level role, if you wanted to switch to industries. Or you have 8 YOE plus JD or LLM that is different story. Good luck.
Your experience is probably light and there’s a lot more in industry you don’t even realize, so they may want someone with industry already for a director.
Get a referral from someone working at the company applying to. Friend on LinkedIn and ask for referral.
The AICPA is offering secondary credentials, I'm working on one in Financial Planning. This will update your resume if there is a gap.
