I got a call from the Google recruiter about my L7 em interview Google She said I did overwhelmingly good on all interviews except one had mixed feedback on a system design. No surprise because it was not a good interview. The recruiter said i had a choice to go to hiring committee, give referrals they could call about my system design or take another system design interview. I’m not confident about the system design because of the bad experience I had with the previous interviewer. What should I do?

I ask them questions a lot, especially about their perspective. I had heard somewhere that people like to talk about themselves, I find this is true. This also makes time go by faster; interviews can live and die in the silence. And babbling on about random things, or over and over about things you've already discussed, drowns out competence.
I haven’t worried so much about rapport but I remember some interviews that didn’t go smoothly because the interviewer had nothing planned. Or maybe they had someone else in mind already and couldn’t cancel the appointment. That doesn’t mean you can’t be prepared. Use the time to ask questions. It shows you’re interested and not just going through the motions talking about yourself. Is the organization doing well? Does the team work well together? How long have you been in your current role? What do you like most? Who do you interact with and what do they do? Does the team do anything outside of the office?
