USI Insurance brokerage and consulting - thoughts? A recruiter reached out to me via linked in and I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on this company. They seem to have decent reviews on Glassdoor but I was hoping to get more insight into workload and comp. Thanks in advance! USI

Hey everyone, I got a call from Deloitte recruiting on Wednesday of last week discussing salary requirements and location. They told me that the team really liked me and that they were going to work on an offer. I got a call on Friday saying one group has approved the offer but they are waiting on others. I haven’t heard much since then. Should I be worried? How much longer will I have to wait?
Wanted to highlight Prudential Financial’s hiring practices. They rescinded my offer once I attempted to negotiate the salary. The official reason given was that I didn’t “sound excited enough”.
They then admittedly gave the offer to someone who was less qualified. There were other red flags throughout the job offer process that the HR team should overall be ashamed of.

I can only think of cons. Why would the US government not want to be informed and involved in world health concerns? These global entities that the president talks about leaving were formed back when America was the undisputed super power of the world (we still are but there are many more nations interested in the spot who are quickly working their way up) and that is why we typically have leading and very Influential roles. If we formally leave there will be little to no chance of us be able to rejoin the global stage at such a commanding level. I also want this to be clear I am not saying America is on a steep decline but we are not climbing at the high rates and if we’re not the leading global power someone else will gladly step in and take our place.
The US is the largest donor to the WHO. Withdrawing would significantly undermine the work that they do. They are not a perfect organization, but they have been partially responsible for eradicating polio in many countries, they provide medical care for an unprecedented number of refugees worldwide, and they enable coordinated responses among countries to address emergent infectious diseases.
There are a lot of places the US directs more funds with significantly less positive impact on global health (US defense spending, foreign aid to corrupt governments, etc.) and that encourage destabilization in regions where people already have limited access to healthy food and clean water, where girls are not attending schools, and where elections are not free or fair. The focus on withdrawing from the WHO is a nationalistic dog whistle. If we really wanted to decrease our involvement in foreign affairs, we could easily start elsewhere and save more money.

Pros: Avoid mouthpiece of Chinese misinformation/influence
Cons: Avoid all other major countries as well
This is very true. We shouldn’t create Yellow Peril 2.0 and fall into a Thucydides Trap — and you can bet that Trump’s policies to date are driven by jingoism (and idiocy) and not a fully objective analysis of the threats posed. There’s plenty of room to be smart and recognize the nuances without becoming either a doormat or a war hawk.

The solution to contesting China’s malign influence on the world and supranational organizations isn’t taking our ball and going home. It’s continuing to engage the international community and proving why the post-WWII order we established is in everyone’s interest and the CCP’s big data authoritarianism is not.
That said, I’m assuming Biden will be able to reverse this decision once he’s inaugurated next year.
It consistently amazes me how we abandon our allies on issues like this.
I’m very much in agreement - why bail instead of working with the EU, Five Eyes, India, etc. to influence the WHO in our favor?
Doesn’t make much sense.
Why can’t the US remain a member of WHO for voting purposes while refusing to give it money and/or refusing to follow guidance that we don’t like?

Pro: WHO already chose the side of China despite America giving them 10x more funding at the start of the pandemic.
Con: Without a bargaining chip at the table we have no influence in WHO policy going forward

I view it as a classic case of carrot and the stick.
Pros: Removes the US from being the largest funding source for a typically horrifically governed UN agency and will almost certainly cause a (hopefully beneficial) top to bottom shakeup of the agency, as well as forcing other countries to pay their fair share
Cons: Isolates the US in that particular arena, as well as removes US influence from reshaping the WHO to be a better agency. The remaining funding countries have little to no backbone when it comes to China, so that leaves China in a dominant role as far as WHO is concerned, which will likely end poorly unless the other countries suddenly grow a spine.
We should defund CDC too.
Roll a new org US Health Force; we need an org that like the FED somewhat independent from political influence.
I am still waiting for n95 masks.
Ah yes. Because the corporations will surely do what's best for our health.
No pros
Educated? Lol
The US has surrendered its role of the global leader, and I’m not sure we’ll ever get it back. Maybe that’s a good thing for humanity as a whole, but I have to admit that I’m disappointed.
