Looks good on a resume but didn't find it particularly useful in my day to day. The premise is good and it teaches you how to think through what you might expect next in a project, but I found real life experience to be far more beneficial as I've grown in my role. No project is the same and I felt it was trying to apply a one-size-fits all approach, which just isn't realistic. Especially if you work in digital, which can be very nuanced and changes so frequently. If your company is willing to foot the bill I'd say do it. Definitely doesn't hurt and from an optics perspective can be beneficial, but I wouldn't pay for it myself.
I am a seasoned PM and I say No, based on opinion from other seasoned folks who see PMPs as stiff and mechanical. The better you get, the more you see the PMPs can't handle the big projects that require adaptability
I've been a PMP for a while now but only recently have I worked with a team who value the certification let alone even know what it is. But, if you have the time to pursue it then do it. PMI is a valuable organization and it will help if you ever consider changing industries, too.
Not necessary
What R/GA said. Certifications always look good on a resume and in the last few years I've seen an uptick in positions that "require" a PMP. But I think in practice they're much more useful in traditional PM fields like construction. I've seen several PMPs come into the digital ad biz and basically fall apart because they can't adapt their training to the flexibility that this work demands. PMPs who are already in the digital ad world fare better, since they're used to it, but I'm not sure if there's a tremendous benefit.
