Question about Accounting Research Interview: I have been approached on LinkedIn about participating in a research study by @PXN focused on the audit, tax, advisory, and compliance markets in the US, especially New York. The study offers $200 for a 1-hour interview, and I’m wondering if this compensation is reasonable for this type of research.

l interviewed for Deloitte (India not USI) in January, and accepted an offer letter with DOJ of 25th April, later HR asked me to join on 11th April for which I agreed. Now I haven't received the revised offer letter or any links other than BGV and Pre-Hire form from Deloitte and now the HR is not even picking my calls or responding to emails.

Any advice on what to do?

“I will get back to you by the end of this week” does that really mean “your not right for this position”? Because this whole thing is a waste of time. I’m literally so miserable in industry. I have been at it a few years and it’s boring. My boss likes to act like every minor issue is a 10 when it’s a 3 and creates emergencies where there aren’t any.

What kind of job do audit seniors typically leave for?

Are private companies easier to work at than public companies in accounting? We have such an accelerated close deadline at the publicly traded company I’m at now, I really hate the inflexible tight deadlines and analysis seems to drag on forever after that. We also close AP/AR very early in the month yet that doesn’t stop payments/receipts from happening so we’re constantly adjusting our accruals until the end of month. Do private companies start their close after the month actually ends?

Are all Big 4 firms equally tone deaf, or is it just EY? I feel like they don’t address the fact that people are leaving in droves and the ones left behind are burnt out - we continue to have these big growth targets, but fewer and fewer people to actually do the work.
