Ok be honest, candidates. I really love this set of questions, I’ve been considering shifting my current interview style to these questions - I think they really give you an idea of who this person would be within the work setting. But the questions almost feel too deep for a recruiter to ask. What would you think if a recruiter took a different path and asked these questions instead of the usual ones?

Just tell them that. I don’t think it’s strange at all. Work life balance and being happy at work are worth it.
I respect the hell out of people willing to take a cut in salary for their happiness and work life balance, most of the time when I see this happen, it still means the person can afford their living situation. It also sometimes helps with wealth distribution within agency so maybe someone super junior gets a bit extra and isn’t struggling as hard
Salaries do not necessarily keep going up throughout someone’s career. Your reasons make sense and it sounds like a good move. Good luck
