Question for folks on H1B: I have an offer from another consulting firm but PwC is applying for my H1B this year. Since I have a STEM degree, I get three shots at H1B visa. I didn't get it last .contd

There's no guarantee of you getting a H1B in this or any year, so I wouldn't stay based on an uncertainty. Life is short, take the job you want. We might all get kicked out of here or get to stay here. Why let something you can't control, control you?

like

You know there is already talk of getting rid of OPT. Who knows when / how the H1B system might change. My suggestion is first get your H1B with PwC, then reevaluate career options

like

I can't speak with any expertise on the HB1 process but as someone who is rather risk averse, I'd be really hesitant to switch firms now with only one chance left.

like

I cannot speak to H1B specifically, but if you are good at what you do there will always be a buyer :)

Year cause of the lottery. This is my second year applying for it. What are my options here? Should I stay with PwC and get an H1B and transfer it later. Or should I just join the other firm and hope that I get an H1B next year which is also the last time I can apply for H1B. For context, I am really not liking the culture here and desperate to take the other job. I'd really like to listen to some different perspectives before I make a decision. Thanks

like

Are you good at what you do? You should have nothing to worry about.

like

I'm doing really well here. However, the other job is exactly the kinda work I wanna do. And its also in a location favorable to me.

like

@D1: Thanks for your POV.

like

If you have any offer from the other firm, take it on a condition that your H1B gets picked up in this year's lottery. Let PwC also file your H-1B this year. It's gonna be a win win situation for you and for new employer, so they should agree to it

like

Op, wait, did your H1B petition get selected this year?

like

You just have to give standard 2 weeks notice if you wanna leave

like

How much opt do stem folks have these days, out of curiosity?

like

Typically, you can expect the lottery results by mid May to early June. However, the approval of the petition takes a few months and might get done by July-Aug. That was the timeline for me and a few other folks last year, and I don't see any reason why the timeline should be any different this time around. Hope it helps

like

Thank you so much guys. Also, do any one of you know what the H1B timeline looks like. I know they start applications on April 1 but how long do you have to stay before you can leave the firm.

So, PwC applied for H1B this year. I am curious about the H1B processing timeline. More specifically, what would my options be if I get rejected again this year or if I finally get an H1B.

How much of your opt do you have left?

My OPT expires in Jan,2019

I applied for an h-1 in June, and received the visa in October.

I would totally take the other job. Alternatively, ask the other firm if they can wait for you to join. If you win the lottery through PwC, it's much easier to transfer visas.

Has anyone ever asked to renegotiate their salary after starting a job? I’m 2 months into my new job and I have far more responsibilities than what I was told. It’s a lot different than what was relayed in the posting and during the interviews. Additionally, they hired my counter part in as a senior manager which is at least $30k more than what I make. My peer has more experience so I expect that but I feel that I should be paid more, however I don’t want to leave a bad impression… any advice?

I’m most familiar with 1 as it’s the audience I work with at current job. Not enough info/experience with other 2 segments. Remaining segments I know enough but not as confidently.

Will it look like I took the easy way out if I chose my segment? They know it’s my current audience and has been for 8 yrs. Would love to hear your thoughts!

I am still applying to new jobs but I was told it is impossible to move up the grade level now. Everyone is telling me to stick with the government. What are your thoughts?

Hey guys, so I have competing offers. One at Bank of America for 124, and one at Allspring for 110.

Does anybody work at Allspring? They did not provide any information regarding benefits, 401k match, or any annual bonus structure. I was told, verbally, that the Bank of America bonus is something like 15 to 20%, but nothing in writing.

Just wondering if anyone has any knowledge about compensation structure at Allspring, or any opinions on the culture there. I would be in Charlotte.
