I think D1 meant “congrats, that is amazing!” I laughed for a minute when i saw the response: clear and to the point, yet so many layers of complexity.

Congrats OP! Can you share (in general terms of need be) the interview process and duration? Thanks!

Rt I’m evaporated.

Would have to google half of those words, but those numbers seem juicy.

Congrats!

likefunny

I would say your carry is a little light for a true VP role - given the relative size of your fund I would push for an additional half point or so. Also just remember that carry comes late an often on a vesting schedule, so unless you’re staying 5+ years you are not seeing a dollar or carry. If that’s not your horizon, then I would push for more cash

like

Cash in before you get beat by index funds.

likefunny

That’s the plan haha

(Cont’d) wanted to post here and gauge if the offer is competitive (particularly on the carry front). Any data points (both personal and anecdotal) would be much appreciated!

like

Is this role a role a could reasonably get to 3-5 years out of an M7 MBA?

If I understood correctly, that is the target payout if the fund returns 2x. So if fund is monetized in 6 years, you would get 1mm divided by 6 on top of your cash comp to calculate annual all in comp. Is that correct?

likehelpful

That’s exactly right; it’s not an annualized number given lumpiness of carry payouts. Assuming fund doubles and GP takes 20% (100M) id get 1M

Congrats OP, awesome offer!

like

Thank you!

Cash comp is in line for size of fund, might be able to juice carry a bit more. Have seen some a bit (up to 50%) higher

@EY1, now imagine the fund managers who see 10X these numbers ;)

Sounds like an amazing opp. Congrats!

Wait, you get $1M in carry...?

What is breakout of cash base versus bonus? That's the other piece to consider and how that number is calculated (formula versus pure discretionary).

240/60 is the split

I think it’s about right. I’d expect 400-500k TC at VP level.

Been with an Asphalt and Concrete contractor in suburban Chicagoland for a little over 2 years now, and am going into a compensation discussion tomorrow after informing my boss I no longer wish to be on a draw.

Current comp plan is as follows:
Salary- ~48k w/ draw up to about 80k, full OTE with commissions should be ~170000, this is all increased by kickers every 250k in sales that increase commission/draw

My questions is if the draw is removed, how much salary should I be asking for?

I'm not in sales per se but I manage my company's largest wholesale account ($150 million per/yr account). It's a great company, awesome culture, good benefits, flexibility, but the pay is not great ($60K/yr). All the pros outweighed the mediocre pay, but now with inflation rising, my paycheck isn't going as far and I'm having a really hard time trying to figure out if I should start looking elsewhere or if I should ask my boss for a raise.

For the salary expectation, I put in 85k which is in the range. I’m currently at 64k which is below the minimum of the range. Is this realistic?

Also, I have an idea of what I should be compensated in this type of role, but any insights on how they pay compared to others would be helpful. Are you traveling during the pandemic or have client interactions been virtual? Lastly, if you are a consultant here, are you on billable hours? My current consulting role is not - so this would be new.
