Recent college grad with a salary of 72K in NYC at KPMG
I intend on maxing out my Roth IRA. Should I do Roth 401K or traditional 401K this year? Perhaps a mix?

Not to be a jerk but if you scroll down or use the search function, you will find hundred of posts with the same question. Probably use Roth or a split.

No problem. I have been at this a long time. We didn’t have a Roth option when I started so it was easier. Once we got a Roth option, several years ago I spent a decent amount of time trying figure it out. It gets a lot easier after a while

Roth 401k… taxes will only be higher in the future and your salary will grow to higher tax brackets. At that point consider a mix. Any match will be pre-tax too.

Max out your 401k to lower your pretax income. I’m also in nyc and I max out my 401k for that reason.

Yup

How are you getting 72k, are you in advisory ?

Don’t they always start at 70k+? Assuming you have a masters in tax.

Got news that my house closing may have to be moved due to a delay in the sale of my home. My partner’s income was excluded in the DI ratio, but if it were included we’d be well under the % threshold and can be approved to close on time regardless of the sale of my house. However our mortgage company’s underwriting team has been painfully slow in confirming if her income qualifies. She’s been at her new job 1 month after a year off. Anyone with underwriting experience have insight?

💲For those who DON'T think a six figure salary is possible:

👉Just ask for it. Really, you would be surprised. Might be easier to switch to a new company and ask. I did that 3 years into my career.

And 🛑 wasting your time at a company that under-values you severely. Sometimes switching companies every 2 years or so will allow you to keep raising the bar for yourself.

I’m 25 and have found a duplex I’m considering purchasing as a rental property. Planning on renting both units and have the cash to make the down payment without an issue. My cash flow analysis has a payback period of 3 years for my down payment and a 13 year payback period for the whole investment. I think financially it makes sense. My question is, is it realistic for a 25 year old young professional to handle dealing with all the extra curricular’s that come with owning a rental property ?

My fiancé and I are first time home buyers (both 28 yo) and would like to know what makes more sense: buying an expensive home or buying a lower cost one. Our combined income is around 400K but since we just began working post school, our savings are only $70K right now (also 30K in student loan debt). We’re buying in a high property tax state where taxes could be 4% (think 12K taxes on 600K home). Should we get a 500K house or get a 800K - 900K (which represents most I’m willing to spend)

I think living a frugal life and aiming to retire early makes a lot of sense.

Recently, some of my family members are diagnosed with a rare diseases. When you look at the statistics, these are so many of these ‘rare’ conditions and cumulatively they are not rare.

These family members conditions made me reevaluate how I want to spend my life. I am 35 this year and I can’t decide if I should take great vacations with my kids or keep living a frugal life. Do you have the same dilemma?
