Recently left PA after 15 years to take a fund controller role and not loving it. Feeling stuck. Looking for exit opportunities for a fund controller and ex big 4 audit director? Don’t say another damn fund controller role

Have you looked into any fund controller roles?

Are you at a third party fund administrator or in house at an actual fund?

Honestly it’s like everything else depends greatly on the people you work with

like

Oh I’m sorry that should be better

Idk this fund 🌍 is hard a niche to exit out of you should be able to find a fund or even fund administrator with some good ratings

I thought being a fund controller would be cool since you guys get paid so well.

like

Be careful what you wish for

Idk maybe go to your local chapter CAIA events network etc etc

like

You could just control the funds

like

Why not just a regular controller position? If you were an audit director not long ago you could easily swing in there. Work with reputable recruiters that have a wealth of experience under their belt. (You are too experienced to go with newbie recruiters). I personally will work with a few recruiters at once because they all have different connections. Just remember you have transferable skills you will be ok.

I know what you mean, the work in Fund Accounting is boring. I know with your experience you will find a more interesting role. When I came to the US I took a Fund Accounting role cause I needed the money and now I also feel stuck. Best of luck.

Does boring mean easy work? 🤣 better WLB too?

OOF. Thank you!

I’m guessing recruiters/your network have been sending fund controller roles your way?

Curious if anyone else is or has been in the same boat. I started as an assistant at an entertainment law firm prior to passing the bar. Upon passing, the partner told me they would hire an assistant for me since I now became an associate. That was 1.5 years ago and I am still in the limbo of juggling my own workload + doing assistant roles for my supervisors. I have also had no increase in pay, which is a huge deal for me. Is this normal in the entertainment world? Any suggestions?

Left b4 consulting for f500 industry (pharma). Much of what was promised was blatantly false or hasn’t panned out. However, the pay (around 300k) and WLB are real. And work is somewhat interesting - just isn’t what i signed up for, moves at a glacial pace and i have doubts about the potential of much of what my team is doing.

Am i crazy for considering returning to consulting like MBB in an M level role? In low 30s now and we have a very young child. Please roast me if i need to hear it. TIA!

I’m planning to leave my job at the end of June, should I warn my boss now so she can start hiring? I don’t want her to be blindsided by my decision and hiring is very slow at the moment. Plus if they hire someone I can train the transition will be easier? But I don’t want to shoot myself in the foot if they were thinking or giving me a pay rise or promoting me?

Should you discuss salary range with an internal company recruiter prior to setting up an interview? With external recruiters it’s pretty easy to talk about the expected range. I am trying to avoid wasting all of our time if i get to the last interview and they are expecting a salary that is too low for me.

UPDATE (RE: SoCal Assistant Controller Interview)

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.

Not sure if Im hired or not, but are there any questions about the job, comp (cont.)

What’s going on FB friends,

I am contemplating a move to industry working at a VC, Tax Director role east coast. Looks like it will be primarily overseeing compliance with some aspect of advising on structures etc. There is another tax reporting head above me.

The potential comp is the low 200k with a 10% bonus (still higher than what I am making). I feel this is pretty low for VC standards but maybe my standards are also too high. I have generally seen 25% bonus with carry.

Any thoughts?
