Seeking advice. Been in industry for about 3 years, and I was looking to go back into public for better career growth and learning opportunities with PA. My current employer does not support masters nor getting cpa, but a recent cpa firm I interviewed at said I know longer have the relevant experience to thrive in public as a senior tax associate. Can anyone advise how to successfully transition back into public and what additional skills I should pick up? 4.5 yrs total exp Thanks for input!

I would expect that if you get to the right firm, they will hire you. When you have industry experience, it can be extremely useful in Public. Ideally you would work for a CPA firm that services your current industry.

That is very good advice I do think that makes a lot of sense. That would be a big 4 type of firm as i work in broadcast media. Would you have any insight?

Thanks!!

I think you should keep applying! I can refer you to KPMG if you’d like!

I disagree. I don’t feel industry experience transfers to PA at all. The few people I’ve known that have gone industry to PA have taken an experienced staff role in PA with a pay cut.

I had to take a lateral position when I jumped from industry to PA

I recently had an initial interview for a technical recruiter position. The guy on the phone stated that this is not a 9-5 job and long hours are expected. I proceed to ask how much PTO is offered and he said that is not recommend within the first 6 months of working and the harder you work the more PTO you receive. From that conversation, I saw instant red flags. Any thoughts?
