As a counsel who just lateraled a bit ago, I'd encourage you to maybe think about this a bit differently. It's not easy starting over when you're more senior, and firms don't always do the best job of helping people integrate. A lot of that falls on you as the lateral. Most people are not looking to take opportunities from others so much as ensure they get embedded with the team and with clients as quickly as possible. Maybe they aren't coming across as collaborative as they could, but I doubt it's out of an intentional effort to nudge associates out. Try having a conversation with them about how you can work together to grow existing client relationships, partner on thought leadership, work together on new BD, etc. It's better for everyone in the long run if you can find a way to work together rather than look at each other as competition.

Does your firm have upward reviews?
No. I think it’s excellent that firms like Latham have associate peer/upward review as a formal part of the partnership selection process. If you’re great at relationships with partners but constantly punch down at juniors, you straight up won’t make partner. Sadly, my firm doesn’t do the same.
