No advice but want to say I am sorry your family member is ill.
Did your spouse know this was the deal (that is a family member was ill it would mean moving to Paris)?
Is your partner completely unwilling to move? You say that he is resistant, but I wonder if you two could figure out a sort of compromise (like go for 1 year and see how it works out). It's my belief that marriage is a really sacred commitment and not worth throwing away. It's likely that this will be temporary right? I would ask your partner to make the sacrifice for you. alternatively, if there are any other options for your family member, you could make the sacrifice for them and just go visit periodically.
Manager 1: That's actually a really good point - it doesn't have to be forever and would be a good compromise to make for our long term success.
BCG 1 - I did mention it to him but not sure he was really assuming it would happen. The same way you kind of sign up for insurance not assuming something bad will happen but I did see the writing on the wall.
Thank you both!
First comes marriage. Realllllllly think before potentially jeopardizing it; I think you should have a real conversation about how much it can withstand before deciding. You being on different ends is already a sign that tremendous adjustments would have to take place
In that case, as long as your husband also thinks family comes before marriage, with good communication you guys should be good. Hope it goes well and that your family gets great care nonetheless.
Gosh OP that is such a hard thing to deal with and I don't feel like I even have any good advice. I understand his hesitancy as that is a big move and would be hard but at the same time its kind of what he signed up for. I would talk to him and see if there is some sort of compromise.
