$900 is where I started 5 years ago when I went freelance. Gave myself a raise this year and now charge $1,000/day. No OT. And it doesn’t matter if I work 4 or 14 hours. Busy as ever. Have 20+ year’s experience. Based in CHI, but working all over the country (thanks to the pandemic).
Linked In - connect with EP’s and HOP’s and send a message when you connect. Use your laptop bc with smartphones, I don’t see the option to add a message. Tell them who you are and why you’re connecting. Also give them the link to your website.
Reach out to your trusted Reps as they know what’s going on inside all the agencies. And they can give you connections.
Also, Fishbowl. I posted a little something about myself April of 2021 and a link to my website. Had an 800% increase in traffic and was hired for a 4 month gig working on a global campaign. When that was finished, another agency asked if I was available. I’ve been there 13 months and still going. 2 of my productions sent me to Costa Rica and Warsaw Poland.
There is a lot of work out there. I’ve been remote wfh since last April, and I’ve had to turn down jobs.
Good luck.
900 is good. 850-900 standard. Hot market. Don’t go lower.
That sounds right. In SF we charge $100/hr for Senior freelance. Don’t sell yourself short by going lower.
That’s high. Director level in many disciplines earns $1K per day. Senior producers $500-700. But you never know, and for what you want and you might get lucky.
1k
We typically pay $900-$1,100 for senior level freelancers (in LA)
12 years of experience— I recommend maintaining a minimum of $1K unless you think the project is something you really wanna pursue, worth lowering your rate and they won’t budge. Considerations might be if it’s a secondary market. But not if they’re a part of a network.
What if you are producing multiple projects at 1 time at 1 agency - do you raise your rate?
No! You should be able to handle more than 1 project at a time. Same as if you were on staff.
Going rate for senior broadcast producer is at least $800/10 in ATL.
I’m at $850/day and looking to go to $950 by this fall. Seems fine.
I make $1000-$1200 a day in SF. Happy to go into the office but I mostly wfh with agencies all over the US. Haven’t had to go any lower than $1000 on the last 7 years.
$125-150 hourly.
