Ha! Bold of you to assume 360-day is the only convention that is used. It depends on the asset class, some use Actual/Actual, some use 30/360, and so on. Changing any of it would require major overhaul of all banking systems and it’s really not worth the effort, since the senior people have been used to it
I don't think I said it's the only one used?
I guess I am just wondering in general why it is still used at all when it obviously creates more income for the bank and less for investor/client.
But yeah it would create world wide issues.
Because the # of days in a year have not changed.
That I am not certain about, perhaps 360 is quicker for back of the envelope instead of 365/366? Maybe it’s a legacy practice from back in the day when they had to do quick math instead of having a calculator at hand all the time and they found it easier to use 360. These are just my suppositions.
