Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

What!? Heck yes. Take it. You can always make a different choice later and in the meantime get great experience now.
That’s the gamble you have to take! High risk, high reward. If they offered it to you, you can negotiate that just like anything else. If you never ask you will never know.
i just took a remote role. same hesitations: really extroverted and like seeing my coworkers in person, my partner and i want to start a family in the city we’re currently in, and i wanted my next job to be one i stayed at for years. figured everyone will be remote for some time, i can get great experience in the meantime, and then re-evaluate a year from now.

Do it!! If you want to move down the line, you can ask to relocate to be in person. It won’t be for a while so you can get your footing in the company in the meantime.

Got it. I think a fully remote position is the perfect role for now and the immediate future if you starting a family. Get the experience then find a job in person when you’re itching to get back!
We will never go back to “office commute 5 days a week.” Just not happening ever again. Most agencies will run into a 2/3 days a week in office thing, but even that will take many more months to get to.
I totally get building a dynamic team in person (especially a creative dept), but it’s ever evolving now and I wouldn’t worry about it. Take the gig if it’s a great opportunity.

I’m managing a remote team. It works great for my super proactive creatives. However for ones that need more handholding (more than they should at their level), it’s easy for them to get left behind.
I’m actively trying to find remote in a bigger city as that could increase my salary a good amount.
I did this exact thing in July. Loved it at first, now I’m slowly losing my mind. I also feel like I’m very much out of sight out of mind with my colleagues and have to constantly remind them to include me on briefings, meetings, etc. I don’t anticipate that getting better once everyone else is back in the office. On the flip side, I have two young kids at home so the daily stress of getting them out the door to daycare is SO MUCH BETTER and I actually get to spend time with them during the week now, as well as being able to do housework during the week so I don’t have to do it on the weekends. There’s pros and cons to both but I do think I’ll be sad to not have the close relationships with coworkers once everyone is back to the office. But for right now it’s the ideal situation.
I just took a remote role and am having my second kid next year. I imagine it will be much easier to go back to work when I’m not having to sit in terrible traffic, go down to some room multiple times a day to pump, etc.
Do it! Tbhhhh I feel like it could be like another year before folks are back in person - cross that bridge when you get there
I read somewhere things really won’t get “normal” until next fall. So why not?
If it’s the right fit and falls into your career goals, then absolutely. Remote working and a distributed workforce will become normal after this pandemic.
