Should I take a job as an Admin Assistant with ok pay, slightly sketchy location, but is working with a nonprofit to better the world (guaranteed to get)? Or as a supply chain associate that makes a lot more, great boss, more stress, more expensive area to live though, but the job is not guaranteed?

I have worked previously in both capacities.

It sounds like you have two great options, and it can be tough to decide which one is right for you. I think you have to take into consideration your lifestyle, your values, your career goals, your financial situation, your family and friends, as well as your gut instinct. Make a pros and cons list, that always helps me decide. Good luck!

like

Thanks, I shall need all the help to decide!

Besides the fact that one is guaranteed and the other is not, I think in this economy/job market, I would take the job that offers better pay and benefits. It sounds more secure and like it could lead to better options down the line. Can you keep the non-profit on the line while you find out if you get the logistics job? That way you have a fall-back with the non-profit

It’s possible I could do that. The nonprofit is a contract position, and the other is a direct hire. I was wondering if that would be a jerk move or not, and whether that would burn my bridges with the temp company or not. So I’m waffling a bit.

Have you ever taken a career slow down? I am feeling burnt out from COVID and the incremental responsibilities thrown my way over the last 5+ years. I feel like my health has deteriorated. I like my company, but I want to do less. I don’t need to be a HR Director, CHRO, etc. With a career slowdown, I am prepared for a lower compensation and would want decent benefits. Any lessons learned or success stories about career slowdowns?

Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)
