If you have cash that you want to invest. Please consider Treasury Series I Savings Bond (Electronic). Interest is 7.12% right now. While it's not guaranteed that the 7.12% will remain until next year, it's still a good deal.
My SO and I just invested 20k (10k max per person even married).

If you anticipate being anywhere near the limit, just do a backdoor Roth. Whether you end up below or above the limit won't matter if you do that. With standard deduction you may not hit the limit anyway though.
Not true EM 1. Proposed to disallow nondeductible contributions next year. Need that for backdoor Roth. I think they are allowing taxable conversions for 10 years. And VP, laws are proposed and not passed all the time. This has been in and out several times. It is quite possible this provision won’t pass

You’re not gonna be contributing any 401K pretax?

Yes. 401k contribution is smart, at least up to the match % otherwise you’re throwing away free money.
FWIW - planning on withdrawing more in retirement so would prefer to contribute the full amount to my Roth 401k
When you say this you're essentially saying you estimate that you will be withdrawing more than your making today in salary? I'm assuming that's going to be a lot of money.
Will you have a paid off house by the time you retire?
Today, if you're married and retired, you can essentially withdraw 80K tax free (MFJ). And that's without even considering taking out ROTH IRA contributions.

What if you start at 127k and then get promoted to be $130k?
Well that would only impact my income for 1 paycheck in 2022. I just got the promo and raise to 127.5
What do you mean plan on withdrawing more in retirement? You original question is that you could contribute to traditional 401k to use Roth IRA. No idea if that is valuable to you.
Assuming back door Roth is not taken away, I would go that route. Yes it is all a big guess, especially for the younger people. The most important thing is to save and invest as much as you can, while still enjoying your youth.
