They can easily go back on all of that after you renege. You decided to leave for a reason.
Once you’ve taken that step, you’ve basically burnt a bridge. Move forward rather than burn two. They will lie through their teeth to keep you.
Don’t do it. You have already told the Partner group at EY that you have thought about leaving once. The only reason you are staying is because of some short term incentives. They will never invest in you the same way again as far as helping you build relationships, network, growth, etc
I disagree with everyone. I did the same thing almost 5 years ago and have had zero negative consequences. It was actually exactly the opposite. You need to think about the reasons you wanted to leave for originally and if they were temporary issues that can be resolved
There's some statistic that I've heard, not sure how true it is, but the majority of people who accept the counter offer end up leaving within a year anyway.
People here are extremely jaded. I was just in the exact same situation and just officially started in my new service line a few days ago. Don’t have an regrets on deciding to stay with EY.
" The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result." EY has a classic case of you don't know what you have till it's gone. You've been unhappy with EY despite your best efforts to try to make it work. Don't let them fool you into thinking it'll work this time or they've changed. Truth is, it's never gonna work. Walk away! Time to break up with Ernst and start life with your new boo.

EY1 - wait a year. It will catch up. Speaking from experience
I’m a partner at EY. Been here 30 years. The grass is often apparently greener on the other side. I can understand that, but pushing through and really investing in yourself at the same time that the people at EY are saying they will invest in you seems like a no-lose proposition. You clearly have a lot of second guessing about whether you should be leaving. I would say stick with the known quantity, EY, try and make it work, and trust that the commitment the firm is saying they have to you is real. And you can always leave down the road if it proves to have not been true. Trust your gut and believe in the people who are giving you their word to help you create a role and job you will love. What do you have to lose??
Jaded, yes. I have been lied to repeatedly at prior firms. The situation could turn out positive, but my experience has been- move on.
What? You want to continue filling out checklists and checklists for checklists?
I received a counter offer 4 yrs ago and took it. My career has progressed nicely and my stature within the firm has increased significantly. I am now in the partner process. No burned bridges here.
30 years holy moley, I'd be retiring ASAP for real

I disagree with everyone too. My close personal friend from Deloitte ERS had an industry offer as a manager for a top technology company and he accepted a counter offer including dropping his required travel % and giving him a substantial raise. He is now a senior manager, so where are all these burned bridges people are talking about?
Unless it’s in writing and signed, it isn’t guaranteed.
You were leaving for a reason. Did the reasons change?
