Hi all, I just got a job offer at PwC for a senior consultant position. The salary is 30% above my total comp right now, but I’m just worried about the amount of work I will have to put in compared to my amazing work life balance now. Does anyone have any experience moving from industry to consulting? I need some advice on what to do. I’m still early in my career (1.4yoe) so I feel like I shouldn’t care too much about wlb, but at the same time, I don’t want my mental health to suffer either.

Didn’t they make it a law in recent years (3-5 years) that physical therapists need a PhD as well to become one? Would that be a factor?

Yes all PTs are required to have a doctorate now. I honestly don’t think anyone should even pursue the industry. Every single job I had in the last 10 years are 100% toxic and you are underpaid as well. They take advantage of your kindness and they kill your empathetic side. They have all this debt and struggle to make ends meet and everyone says be more creative. If it was all about creativity, you shouldn’t even pursue education. I am now a strong advocate of trade school. Imagine starting work at 18 years old and learning investing younger and retiring at like 45. Education is such a scam and its unfortunate
I'm in Canada, so our situation might be a little different. It's a combination of the very high pressure job and also the cost of going to university. Unless you're privileged enough to have help with schooling costs, a lot of people just can't afford a university degree anymore even if they want to work in healthcare.

I knew a lot of people who went into the medical field around 10-15 years ago (not just doctors but others such as nurses). But by now, and especially after the Covid pandemic, many have gotten burnt out and switched to something else. I think we never really reckoned with just how much we asked our healthcare providers to do during the Covid pandemic, and it shows to everyone else too how they weren't appreciated and even abused, and people stay away. That and the cost of education/living pushing healthcare professionals away from primary care.

Thanks for your insight! I definitely think that all healthcare workers are waking up and realizing that the system is not properly reimbursing us. In the beginning it seems okay when we are younger, but when you get older, you realize how one sided it is and how other professionals can make more and do less. Its very sad.
