So why do company merges result in mass layoffs?
So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?
Is this layoff?Amdocs

Layoffs will likely be next September, mainly at the holdco level and a few small shops under each will fold. Hopefully Omnicom improves from IPG people and processes.
But it’s an ‘exciting new chapter’, you guys!
Anyone think there’s any chance this “merger” will fall through as did the PUB/OMC did a decade ago?
Layoffs are coming.
Less agency competition is always a negative for workers. This is a net negative
coming from omnicom to ipgh, things are going to go backwards. ipgh is a lot more organized and advanced than omnicom, hopefully the right leaders are put in place.
also get ready for 5x a week in office
Plus Omnicom pays a lot less and the benefits are not as good, so going to suck for IPG staff. They should start looking now because there will also be massive layoffs.
Layoffs is the correct answer.
Can’t wait to get laid off from MartinBBDDBO & Silverstein & Partners.
What’s our escape plan? Seriously. This industry isn’t a sustainable place to work. This merger is the latest big sign of that
IPG Already started to layoff the employees ...I work in UM and 2 of my Collegues already left becz of Pressure of work load ...
This tells you everything you need to know. Per the NYTimes: “Omnicom’s shares fell more than 6 percent in early trading on Monday, while Interpublic’s stock jumped 10 percent.”
This is called price correction in the market. Expect this to soar post acquisition.
I dont love that they will become #1 holding co but I do believe it will be short lived.
I’m interested to see if they have any major competing clients that might threaten to leave (an example when mediacom got Coke as a client and Pepsi dropped Mindshare as their agency in a lot of markets)
Nothing is going to happen until the summer at the earliest.
Deal epnt close until June
An IPG employee moving to Omnicom increases the IQ of both companies.
That will be a formidable advertising group.
Yep...layoffs are on the horizon. I was impacted by recent merger.....corporate restructuring?? Yeah ok....workforce reduction so execs make their bonus. SAME pattern.. 😒
That will happen with or without a merger.
They didn’t take it. It wasn’t vested. It’s illegal to just take it.
John Wren is calling this an acquisition.
Not a merger
I'm so proud they laid me off and took almost half my 401k so they could keep a high valuation to make this possible. My retirement plan is now my lack of health care so this all works out for me too.
