I think you want a different word than groomed
Go out there and get the job you want instead of waiting for them to see your value.
Smdh prob was a cheaper salary! How did you not see this coming? How long at company & how was your reviews? What did your boss say was the reason? Sorry about this.
Right, she’s prob making a junior salary. Did you check her LinkedIn?
There’s a cartoon TikTok about this exact situation. She says no after they tell her they won’t pay her for her time training the new hire.
Then she resigns effective immediately.
I’d like to think that I’d do the same.

Never resign. Make them pay you severance to go.
I'm going through a very similar thing.
My department hired a new Marketing Director almost a year ago; I started a year prior. The new person is 20 years my junior and has minimal real-world experience with the position (I never had any interest in the position— I never applied for it because, frankly, I have zero interest in that position at the institution because it is a bureaucratic position and not a creative one.) The new person had the title of Creative Director at her previous job but had never had any formal creative or design experience. Their “portfolio” consists of several postcards and flyers that were unmodified Canva templates. Having worked in the real estate market for years, I know it well, and I know that the position was given to them by attrition. Even their resume was filled with glaring errors. All of this was brought to the hiring committee’s attention. Still, they were offered the position because of the lack of depth in candidates, a lack of diligence, and the institution’s propensity for nepotism (two of their stepparents work there).
This person has zero interest in print (which is what I do) and are trying to change the workflow institution-wise by switching over to Canva to give everyone the ability to do their own thing. They’re also trying to redefine my union position, and it’s every week constantly talking about ways to justify my position or do a specific task, or they’ll find someone who will.
It’s toxic and hostile.
If I were you, I’d seriously consider weighing any protections you have in the job against the current cons and decide if the job is worth fighting for.
The current job market is scary for an older person like me, but I feel younger people have much better odds of landing design positions because they’re viewed as much more contemporary—whether that’s true or not is irrelevant.
Older folks also cost more.
So, please put some thought into it and make a move. Just be prepared to face many rejections, and know it will take time—especially depending on where you live.
