Do you exercise or spend much time doing outdoor recreation? Exercising outside has completely changed my sleep patterns. Getting sunlight in the morning on my run has reset my circadian rhythm and the cardio has helped my body handle the stress so much more. I highly recommend
I am very much so an outdoors person and plan on buying a fishing and hunting license and taking advantage of that advice for sure. I have a few other dispatchers recommend the same thing.
I will definitely look into that. Only problem with that is that the issues sleeping is from night terrors that I am currently seeking treatment for. The added stress among other things has just built it up to the point I cannot reach out to family anymore to stay stable. If I try they just say it's all in my head.
Hmm, how about you try not to think about work and what happened at that time during your free time? It's definitely hard to separate work from the rest of your time but you should. Also, stop overthinking what should and should not happened during the 911 calls. I mean, you cannot control everything that can happen. Hope you're okay there.
Are you dealing with stress from the workload or from the energy you get from the calls you take all day?
Stress can cause many problems and in the end have an effect on daily life and relationships. As a dispatcher you receive calls from different type of people. I agree thatenergy can have a lot to do with it. The human body is made to be able to withstand many things but when it comes to your health and the fact that what you are doing is causing you stress is a clear sign that you might need to take a break, reevaluate, move forward with a goal in mind to better yourself in the work environment.
Exercise is a huge help. But honestly- therapy. If you are at the point of night terrors, you may be past controlling this yourself. As hard as that is to admit…
Depending on where you are, there may be therapists or a group that specializes in working with public safety folks. Therapy comes in all shapes and sizes. Some people like individual talk therapy, others prefer a group for the connection to people outside their agency/center but from similar backgrounds.
Good luck working through this. I hope you are able to find some peace.

All these have helped for me over the years with burnout and stress.
