I’m no doctor, but this sounds like something unrelated to keto - she should get a full panel, thyroid check etc. Also look into food allergies and sensitivities - general inflammation can wreak havoc and cause unnecessary water weight gain. Our bodies change over time and us women especially can experience a myriad of hormone-related fluctuations.
Also, (depending on her size, of course) 900 calories is likely not even close to sufficient... and sounds like it could be dipping into a dangerous pattern
I was interested in doing keto but a friend told me she did it for years and lost a ton of weight then her metabolism got messed up and she would eat 900 calories a day and gain weight. Wondering if others had the same issue
Unfortunately this is an issue for many people whibare overweight for a long time and lose weight a significant amount if weight. If you search scholarly articles in regaining weight you will find different theories as to why this is the case. With that being said, I did keto for 3 1/2 months and lost 20ish lbs. I then fell off for 3 weeks and ate freely and mostly fast food. In those 3 weeks I gained about 5 lbs (which is low for me). Then when I went back on keto I was back to losing in a little over a week. For me Keto seems to have changed my relationship with food generally. Even when I was off, I still only ate when I was hungry and didnt have the severe cravings that I had before. But every "body" is different. Good luck with whatever you chose or choose to get healthy!!
I haven’t heard this. If your friend went back to eating carbs, I imagine there were a few pounds gained due to water. In any case, gaining weight from just 900 calories sounds a bit dramatic ...
What do you mean? Keto makes me forget about food, I eat about once a day, no cravings. Is that what you mean?
She doesn’t eat carbs. She said after doing it for a few years it stopped working. By this I mean she didn’t start and stop doing it, she was continuing to do it and it messed up her metabolism
