I got laid off from my accounting/consulting firm in January and have since been taking a class related to my industry but from a tech angle. I prefer to leave consulting but could stay off the work and work life balance were better. I signed up for this class thinking hiring woods be soft until midyear give or take just wish the class finished. I look on this app and it seems everyone is hiring. Am I missing the boat by not being in a full throttle job search now?
Given the current scenario, seems like getting laid off is a very real possibility. What is the severance package like at EY, PwC, Deloitte? Just curious
How do I have the conversation with a Partner about writing a letter of rec for a PhD program? Will I put myself a risk of being laid off if I express interest in continuing my education?
Looking at the way people are laid off, utilization is just one part of it. It's so hard to pin point what is (proper consultants let go from projects, etc..)
Heard that you are not likely to get laid off for being unstaffed if you got promoted in the last performance cycle, anyone know if that's true?
Anyone else having crazy layoffs this week? 😞
Risk of getting fired as a new experienced hire in HC with solid 3 ratings and tons of impactful PRD, but on the bench for too long?
Can I get some feedback on my resume? I was recently laid off and I am not having any luck getting interviews. I would appreciate the feedback, and will definitely return the favor!
Does anyone else feel like their burn-out cycle is shorter? It used to take me about 2 years of grind before I hit a burn-out phase where I needed to do some serious recuperating. It feels like I'm at 3 months now, or even less. I've already spoken to my wife about building quarterly mini-vacations into my schedule just to keep my energy up. And by burn-out, I mean you're at the point that every single ball you are juggling can drop and you get fired and almost see that as a blessing.
How are people "networking" now that we are wfh? I mean, you are barely even aware if people still work in the same company. Previously, you at least saw them every now and then at the office but now... They could have fired half the company and I wouldn't know
Analysts who left in their 1st year either (voluntarily or laid off) where did you end up and how long did it take you? Consulting isn't for me and I'm obviously only eligible for entry level roles
Just got laid off today 😥 super sad
Tax question for any Accenture people who were part of the layoffs in August...did you see anything weird with state withholding on your W2? I relocated from VA to NJ in early 2020 and my state withholding switched to NJ when I moved. However (and I never noticed this at the time), all of my earnings, including severance, paid out PTO, and COBRA true up, are shown as taxable income in both states. My tax accountant is scratching his head.
In other news: Deloitte is full of trolls that are trying to convince you you're about to be laid off.
If you are separated from your firm and you are kept on payroll for an additional month to facilitate payout of severance when does the 60 day grace period count start? Is it on the last day on payrl?
Survived the layoffs on friday-but still shook up from seeing a bunch of my friends get walked out all around me. When a layoff happens should I be updating my resume/looking to get off the ship?
Let’s say one of us gets laid off. Does it benefit our search in relation to opportunities through LinkedIn contacts if we don’t update our employment status? Does it hurt? Does it matter?
Anyone leave before their bonus (before knowing what the amount was) and then regret it when it turned out to be a huge bonus? Got a great offer that I want to take but feeling FOMO by leaving the bonus on the table. And yes, I tried moving the start date and asking them to cover the lost bonus but they said no and it’s still a better offer and it would be irresponsible not to take it.
Woke up at 4:30 am for an early morning flight on American. Takes me an hour to get to the airport. When I am about 10mins away (in my Uber) I get a text that my flight is delayed until 10am cont...
Very thankful to have a week each month remote on my project. Let's be real, we don't need to be on the client site every week.
Has anyone here left for Accel-KKR in an operating role? What does your day to day look like? How is the work do you different from your consulting work?
Analytics folks at a MBB, what’s your experience been like? What level would I come in at with 8 years of experience?
Okay I’m going to say it if hasn’t been said before: I want the option to go back to the office now. I get some of you have kids or prefer wfh but I can’t stand it. I hate being cramped up and some people also live with toxic family members. We should make it optional for those who want/need to come back
Congrats to all the folks that got promoted at PwC! And thank you fishbowl - I wouldn’t have known about PwC promotion time without you.
Gender Issue: someone in my family (Father 🙄) keeps iterating on the issue, that woman should never be allowed in to lead positions. Can't deal with it but have to start yelling at him. Anyone h
Hey Mates I'm working in pretty good fintech firm. I'm in my 30s with 2 kids and they are calling everyone to office by January I want remote job and would never want to live in any city again. Wondering which route to opt? 1. Start investing in open source and build a profile, find freelance jobs on upwork/Fiverr Or 2. Start giving interviews in remote jobs. FYI I'm terrible at interviews and spoken communications. Please provide your inputs. I want to work remote with good pay.
Guy behind me in the group 1 line to board the plane - "are you group 1?" - no asshole, I'm just standing here to be a total inconvenience to you. STFU and go to your exit row seat.
I’ve had a slightly sore throat and moderate fatigue since Sunday but no fever or other symptoms. Could this be Covid? Is it enough to get tested?
If one is on a long workshop call (not an optional one and spanning more than a few hours) that spans across the lunch time period, does your firm or client generally provide for lunch when it's been in-person, or reimburse for lunch when it's been in-person or working from home (the latter particularly due to COVID)?
Those who took the AWS CCP exam - do you get questions like “how much does a storage type cost per GB per month” in the exam? Trying to figure out whether this level of detail is required to be memorized for the exam
Anyone here involved with MBA recruiting? My friend is trying to decide if he wants to attend Kellogg this fall (from South Korea) or just continue his job and re apply to business school for next fall or two years from now. He has an undergrad from a top 10 US school and wants to come back to the US and is also worried about the trump administration and whether he’ll even get to stay in the US.
Coronavirus is still lurking behind the scenes. News reports are so vague. They Don't even break it down by state?
