Some of my closest friendships in adulthood came from late-night deal saves, shared quota panic, and venting during end-of-quarter chaos. At the same time, sales friendships can feel surprisingly fragile. The environment is so transactional that even relationships can feel temporary. I value those bonds, but I’m not sure how to make them last beyond the org chart. Do you stay in touch with former teammates? How do you maintain real connections in sales?

Talk to them once in a while. Ask how they are. Don’t overthink it. Some people might not respond, but I bet a few will.

I absolutely do. Some of my best friends have come from the shared traumas of a job. I maintain those connections the same way I would any others. We check in from time to time, sometimes get together for lunch, etc.

So I say this with complete humility and an understanding that this is a fortunate-ish situation to be in. I’m in a position where I am tied to nothing, I have no children, spouse, or house. My job, which I’ve loved until some recent significant leadership changes, is sucking the life out of me and I think it may be time for a change. Because I am able to “pick up and go” I’m open to opportunities and locations. I’ve never worked with a recruiter but was hoping I could get some recommendations!
