SO’s birthday on Friday(May 1). We had tickets booked to travel to Utah and it’s canceled now. Any innovative ideas to surprise her at home? Apart from baking a cake, cooking or zoom call with her friends and family?

Run her a nice warm bath with candles, a glass of wine and soft music. It’s simple, but very effective and will really make her feel nice. May put her in the mood too 😉

The most meaningful gifts to me have always been the handwritten notes from my husband. I keep every birthday card he writes, and have the sweetest note he left for me the day before we got married.

I love the ideas above. Something I did once for my spouse was grab the opportunity when he was out briefly (can you make her take a long walk or bath - see above- to get her out of your hair for a bit?) to decorate like crazy. It was a combo of little kid birthday with some better stuff, like I had all this little wooden tropical fish I hung from the ceiling, stuff like that. Really make it like he best birthday party ever, plan some themed drinks, and have friends join virtually, dressed in theme if possible, with same themed drinks in hand. One possible theme might be Kentucky Derby (I know it is postponed, but still fun) where your guests have to make hats to wear and you watch an old video of a precious derby together... something kind of over the top and kind of juvenile...

If you were planning on going to Utah you should do a virtual hiking tour of the state parks!

This is such a cute idea-if my husband made a little picture ppt slide show thing of our “trip” I’d be so touched!

Also get her something that would be fun to use or bring when you do go on the rescheduled trip!

So I have been seeing a guy for 4 months. We have a pay disparity.. he earns less than I do (by quite a bit). He has mentioned a few times that he’s worried I’ll get bored of him when I know he can’t afford the same things I can. I think we are beginning to move past this, but now he’s starting to mention things like ‘I am really broke this month’, and last weekend he told me his mum has lost her job and he’ll have to probably pay her rent. I have a lot of sympathy for his situation … tbc

Living in Van. Previously lived in Toronto. Obviously rent prices are high as is cost of living. Generally go out and spend more often living in a city. Boyfriend and I on good salary but not saving much due to the above. Before we move home to our own country, we’d love to spend a year close to Vancouver where rent is cheaper, temptation is less, to save. A commute to Vancouver 1-2 times a month needs to be possible (his job). That can be a flight if it’s not crazy. Thoughts? Recommendations?

Every night for like the past month I’ve been getting incredibly emotional about adulthood. I miss the lack of responsibility, the simplicity of life, friends were always around, and less pressure to be successful.

I’m 3 years out of college now so it’s not like I just started doing this stuff, but I am feeling the exact same feeling as I did when I first started work and just wanted to be back in college. I know I just need to grow up and accept that’s how life is but it’s incredibly upsetting

Hello,

Currently, in accenture. I have had very bad billable hours and not much achievement this fiscal year. I am worried of getting fired, so i applied for another job. Got offered may be 5% above my current pay with 5k bonus, but in lower level at Deloitte. I think working lower level will give me more opportunities to learn as i think i have lot to learn. I made decision based on my gut and accepted the offer. I have not talked to anyone on accenture side yet. What you think?

Told a friend of mine in tech I was considering moving to BCG. He asked me if I would have to move to Boston.

I followed up by asking what he thought the top consulting firms were. "I'd guess PwC and then McKinsey are the best. I've also heard of KPMG, Deloitte, and Bain, but I don't know much about them."

Just a reminder that outside our bubble no-one really cares about firm prestige etc.
